AMERICAN Olympian Brendan Hansen and his wife, Martha, are expecting a child, according to a story published today in The New York Times.<\/p>\n<p>The Hansens, who married in 2010, became aware of the pregnancy last May when Martha showed Brendan the result of a pregnancy test before he left for a swimming practice.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No way, I said, and she started crying,&#8221; Hansen told The New York Times. &#8220;We were both so happy. Then I got in the car and drove to practice. I was halfway to a workout and I thought, why did I leave her? The whole workout I was just smiling. I was so excited.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Hansens are waiting until after the Olympics to discover the sex of the baby. Their doctor wrote down the sex of the child on a notecard after an examination yesterday, and put it in a sealed envelope.<\/p>\n<p>Hansen will be swimming the 100 breaststroke in the London Olympics, as well as the 400 medley relay. Hansen was the silver medalist in the 100 breast at the 2004 Olympics and fourth in 2008. He won gold in the medley relay in 2004 and 2008. He came out of retirement in 2011 in pursuit of another chance to race at the Olympic level, winning the 100 breast at the Olympic Trials and placing fourth in the 200.<\/p>\n<p>Jason Lezak is the only parent on the U.S. Olympic swim team.
