The first round of that qualifying was back in April at the 2018 Japan Swim, an event that saw 22 athletes qualify already for the Games. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a twist of events right before the meet, Olympian and 2009 World Champion <\/span><b>Junya Koga <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2009-world-champion-junya-konga-fails-doping-test-out-of-2018-asian-games\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">tested positive for a banned substance just before the start of these trials<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, leaving him ineligible for the Japan Open and any international meets this summer. <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Day One Events<br \/>\n<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men\u2019s 100 Free<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men\u2019s 100 Breast<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women\u2019s 100 Breast<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men\u2019s 50 Fly<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women\u2019s 50 Fly<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Men\u2019s 400 IM<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Women\u2019s 400 Free<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Men\u2019s 100 Free<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shinri\u00a0Shioura &#8211; 48.93<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400; color: #000000;\">Mizohata Juran &#8211; 49.21<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Katsuhiro Matsumoto &#8211; 49.28<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Shinri Shioura<\/strong> dashed to a first-place finish in the men&#8217;s 100 free. Shioura posted a final time of 48.93 to be the only swimmer beneath the 49-second mark.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men\u2019s 100 Breast<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yan Zibei &#8211; 59.46<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Yasuhiro Koseki &#8211; 59.48<\/li>\n<li>Ippei Watanabe &#8211; 59.78<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Chinese swimmer\u00a0<strong>Yan Zeibei\u00a0<\/strong>narrowly won this event over\u00a0<strong>Yasuhiro Koseki<\/strong>, 59.46 to 59.48. World record holder in the 200 breaststroke,\u00a0<strong>Ippei Watanabe<\/strong>, also made it onto the podium with a third place finish in 59.78.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women\u2019s 100 Breast<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reona Aoki &#8211; 1:06.65<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Satomi Suzuki &#8211; 1:06.66<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kanako Watanabe &#8211; 1:06.72<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>23-year-old\u00a0<strong>Reona Aoki\u00a0<\/strong>came out on top of what was an incredibly close final in the women&#8217;s 100 breaststroke, just edging out second place finisher\u00a0<strong>Satomi Suzuki\u00a0<\/strong>by .01 of a second. In third was\u00a0<strong>Kanako Watanabe<\/strong>, the 2015 World Champion in the 200 breaststroke.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men\u2019s 50 Fly<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nakao Shuichi- 23.47<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kengo Ida &#8211; 23.53<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Miura Shin &#8211; 23.88<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Nakao Shuichi\u00a0<\/strong>took the top spot in the men&#8217;s 50 fly with a 23.47 that was just\u00a0.07 off of the national record in the event. He was followed closely by\u00a0<strong>Kengo Ida<\/strong>, who holds the current national record of 23.40.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Women\u2019s 50 Fly<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rikako Ikee &#8211; 25.25 (NR)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yukina Hirayama &#8211; 26.28<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ai Souma &#8211; 26.42<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Teen sprint sensation,\u00a0<strong>Rikako Ikee<\/strong>, flew to a new Japanese National Record in finals of the women&#8217;s 50 fly. The 17-year-old lowered her own record of 25.43, set this past April, to a time of 25.25. Ikee&#8217;s time edges her closer and closer to Sweden&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Sarah Sjostrom<\/strong>, who currently holds the world&#8217;s best time for 2018 at a 25.07.<\/p>\n<p><b>Men\u2019s 400 IM<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Daiya Seto &#8211; 4:08.98<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tomoya Takeuchi &#8211; 4:14.40<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kosuke Hagino &#8211; 4:14.77<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>World champion\u00a0<strong>Daiya Seto\u00a0<\/strong>blew away the field in the men&#8217;s 400 IM as the only competitor under 4:10, besting the field by nearly 5 seconds. Notably, <strong>Kosuke Hagino<\/strong>, the\u00a02016 Olympic gold medalist in this event, finished third here in 4:14.77.<\/p>\n<p><b>Women\u2019s 400 Free<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Chihiro Igarashi &#8211; 4:09.74<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kobori Yonedo &#8211;
