INSTEAD of taking the morning off to rest for his tough 200 back-200 IM double tomorrow, Ryan Lochte is swimming the 100 butterfly in tomorrow&#039;s preliminaries.<\/p>\n<p>Gregg Troy, Lochte&#039;s coach, said the plan was to have Lochte swim the prelim race and &#8220;decide where to go from there.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Lochte would face a very tough triple in tomorrow&#039;s evening session if he qualifies for the 100 butterfly semifinals, which comes at the end of Saturday evening&#039;s session but barely 20 minutes after the 200 IM final.<\/p>\n<p>It would give swimming fans a final Lochte-Phelps matchup, though Lochte is very untested in the 100 butterfly. Troy did not say if Lochte&#039;s participation in the 100 fly was a test for his swimmer in that stroke for medley relay purposes in London. Lochte is no stranger to swimming butterfly internationally. He swam the butterfly leg in the 400 medley relay at the 2010 short course world championships, helping the Americans to a gold medal.<\/p>\n<p>Lochte can still elect to skip the event tomorrow with a &#8220;declared false start&#8221; just before his heat walks onto the deck.<\/p>\n<p>Also of note in tomorrow&#039;s heat sheets is Elizabeth Beisel&#039;s scratch from the 800 freestyle. Beisel will be in the 200 backstroke after the 800 freestyle prelims, and has a chance to make the Olympic team in the 200 back.
