ALLISON Schmitt became the first swimmer to claim two titles this meet with a textile best and American record in the women&#039;s 200 free at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials. Colorado Stars&#039; Missy Franklin added another event to her schedule with a second-place blast as well.<\/p>\n<p>Schmitt, who won the women&#039;s 400 free already, blasted the field with a stunning time of 1:54.40.  That swim erased the textile best of 1:54.87 clocked by Camille Muffat in France in March, and moved her to the top of the world this year.  The swim pushed her to second all time in the event behind only Federica Pellegrini, who owns the world record with a 1:52.98 and a 1:53.67, both times from the 2009 World Championships during the techsuit era.  Meanwhile, Schmitt also bettered her American record of 1:54.96 also set in a techsuit in Rome. She&#039;s definitely setting herself up for a monster performance at the London Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Franklin, who already took down the textile best in the women&#039;s 100 back this week, placed second in 1:56.79. She has much more in the tank, already having posted a 1:55.06 last year at the World Championships in Shanghai. California&#039;s Dana Vollmer picked up a second event as well as a relay swimmer with a third-place 1:57.47 after winning the 100 fly earlier in the meet.<\/p>\n<p>Lauren Perdue overcame a back injury that cost her participation in the NCAA Championships this March to earn a spot on the women&#039;s 800 freestyle relay with a fourth-place 1:57.75 out of lane 1, cutting her personal best of 1:58.28.
