The female finalists are: <strong>Makenzie Fischer<\/strong> of <strong>Stanford<\/strong>;<strong> Paige Hauschild <\/strong>and<strong> Amanda Longan <\/strong>from USC. The winners will be announced at the 19th Annual Cutino Awards Dinner to be held Saturday June 2, 2018 at The Olympic Club\u2019s City Clubhouse in San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>The woman\u2019s side presents intrigue. All season Fischer (66 goals) has been a driving force for the Cardinal, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/usc-behind-mammolito-hat-trick-tops-stanford-for-2018-ncaa-womens-water-polo-title\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">losers<\/a> in Sunday&#8217;s national title final to USC. The Trojan&#8217;s Longan (22 matches \/ 5.24 goals against) was just named the 2018 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Year. And, none other than <strong>Jovan Vavic<\/strong> anointed his young prot\u00e9g\u00e9 as: \u201c[O]ne of the best freshmen who\u2019s ever played Division I water polo. She\u2019s dominant in every aspect: defense, offense, finishing. She never loses a sprint. She\u2019s just a complete player.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no question that Hauschild has the potential to be a once-in-a decade talent. Given that goalies <strong>McQuin Baron<\/strong> and <strong>Ashleigh Johnson<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/goalies-rule-princetons-johnson-uscs-baron-win-cutino-awards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">swept<\/a> the 2017 Cutino awards, will the voters on the women\u2019s side again select a goalie? Photo Courtesy: Jorge Daboub<\/p><\/div>\n<p>One might again <a href=\"https:\/\/www.totalwaterpolo.com\/2017\/06\/02\/coaches-speak-makes-cutino-award-winner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wonder<\/a> how <strong>Maddie Musselman<\/strong>\u2014who last season established UCLA\u2019s record for a true freshman (69 goals) and was an integral contributor for a Bruin squad that came up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/steffens-goal-all-around-effort-leads-stanford-past-ucla-in-2017-ncaa-title-match\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one goal short<\/a> in the 2017 national championship final to Maggie Steffens\u2019 Stanford squad\u2014was left off the 2017 Cutino ballot. Photo Courtesy: Catharyn Hayne<\/p><\/div>\n<p>But, given last year\u2019s upset win by Johnson last year over three-time NCAA champ and two-time gold medalist Steffens, perhaps nothing is a given when Division I coaches from all over the country get to vote. A sentimental choice\u2014though highly unlikely given the strength of Cupido\u2019s candidacy\u2014is Matt Farmer (29 goals), the under-sized center who won three titles with the Bruins.
