LONGHORN&#039;s Brendan Hansen put himself in a good position to become just the second man to threepeat at the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials with a sub-1:00 effort in the men&#039;s 100 breast tonight.<\/p>\n<p>He led semis with a strong 59.71 to move to fourth in the world rankings behind only Kosuke Kitajima (58.90), Ryo Tateishi (59.60) and Felipe Silva (59.63). Hansen, who won the event in 2004 and 2008 after taking third in 2000, is on his way to become the second man to win three straight Trials titles.  Gary Hall Jr. is the only one to do it with victories in the 50 free in 1996, 2000 and 2004.  Janet Evans, Eleanor Holm and Mary T. Meagher are the three women to have accomplished the feat. Hansen came out of retirement after he sat out most of the techsuit era, believing the sport had changed past what he was comfortable with.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Weltz cruised to second with a 1:00.20, while Hansen&#039;s wingman in the 100 breast the past two Trials as the second-place finisher each time, Mark Gangloff earned the third seed with a 1:00.22.<\/p>\n<p>Eric Shanteau (1:00.27), Marcus Titus (1:00.49), Kevin Cordes (1:00.53), Mike Alexandrov (1:00.75) and Clark Burckle (1:00.83) earned the rest of the finale positions in the event.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Full wall-to-wall coverage, including photo galleries, athlete interviews, recaps and columns are available at the Event Landing Page OMAHA, Nebraska, June 25.
