{"id":308965,"date":"2018-05-10T17:18:40","date_gmt":"2018-05-11T00:18:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=308965"},"modified":"2018-05-12T15:43:12","modified_gmt":"2018-05-12T22:43:12","slug":"2018-u-s-masters-swimming-national-championships-kick-off-in-indy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2018-u-s-masters-swimming-national-championships-kick-off-in-indy\/","title":{"rendered":"2018 U.S. Masters Swimming National Championships Kick Off With 8 Records In Indy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 2018 U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) National Championships meet kicked off today in Indianapolis, Indiana at the famed IUPUI Natatorium with 2,378 Masters swimmers registered for the event <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimphone.com\/meets\/swimmers.cfm?smid=9753\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">according to meet homepage<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The meet will feature some of masters swimming most prolific record holders, including world record holders (and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/swimming-world-presents-the-top-12-world-masters-swimmers-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">top 12 Masters Swimmers of 2017<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Swimming World<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) <\/span><b>Karlyn Pipes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Rick Colella<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>Laura Val<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>Norika Inada<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In addition to a plethora of Master Swimming Stars, the meet will also feature plenty of high-profile former NCAA and national team swimmers who will be sure to make an impact on the masters level. Former Stanford standout <\/span><b>Felicia Lee <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is entered in the maximum 5 events (the 100 free, 100 IM, 100 back, 50 fly, and 50 back) as is former Notre Dame swimmer <\/span><b>Frank Dyer <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(200 free, 100 free, 100 fly, 100 IM, and 50 free). Division III Champion and Kenyon grad <\/span><b>Hannah Saiz <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is also entered in 3 events, including the 200 butterfly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The first session kicked off today at 7:30am EDT with the distance events, which include the men\u2019s and women\u2019s 1000 freestyle and 1650 freestyle, with a total of 8 records falling from swims within those two events from just two swimmers, <strong>Christie Hayes\u00a0<\/strong>of New England Masters and\u00a0<strong>Willard Lamb\u00a0<\/strong>of Oregon Masters.
