Johnson is a native of Stafford, Virginia where she swam for Nation&#8217;s Capital Swim Club.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson&#8217;s best times came from her freshman season in 2017 where she swam a 1:02.68 in the 100 breast at the Big Ten meet and a 2:13.67 in the 200. She also had a best time of 2:04.55 in the 200 IM from the same Big Ten championships.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson only swam in three meets for the Nittany Lions this season. She will be joining a Virginia Tech team that was seventh at the ACC meet in 2018. The Hokies also just hired <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/sergio-lopez-named-head-coach-at-virginia-tech\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sergio Lopez<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>from Auburn to compete in the deepening Atlantic Coast Conference.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson&#8217;s 200 IM best time would put her seventh for the Hokies and her 100 breast best would put her fourth this past season. She will be joining NCAA qualifier\u00a0<strong>Joelle Vereb<\/strong>, who placed 22nd in the 100 breast at NCAA&#8217;s in 2018. Vereb swam a 59.58 to qualify for the meet.<\/p>\n<p>Her 200 breast best time was faster than the Hokies&#8217; fastest swimmer in 2018\u00a0<strong>Madalyn Ulrich\u00a0<\/strong>(2:13.84). Ulrich was 20th at the ACC meet with that swim.<\/p>\n<p>Johnson provided a statement to\u00a0<em>Swimming World\u00a0<\/em>below:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;So excited to announce my commitment to Virginia Tech!
