ATHENS, Ga. \u2013 Florida State women\u2019s swimming and diving team finished in fourth-place at the conclusion of Sunday\u2019s events at the 2001 Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga. this weekend. The Lady Seminoles compiled a score of 505.5, which was good enough to defeat two nationally ranked teams (No. 18 Alabama and No. 22 Minnesota) and two fellow Atlantic Coast Conference squads (Clemson and Georgia Tech). Senior All-American Chrisy Cech led the Lady Seminoles in Sunday\u2019s competition by winning the 100-yard freestyle consolation final with a time of 50.71.<\/p>\n
Freshman Angie Leach started off the day\u2019s competition for the Lady Seminoles by placing ninth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:05.64. In the 200-yard backstroke, freshman Laura Kenney placed first in the consolation final at 2:03.32, while senior captain Amber Goodwin finished sixth (2:05.96).<\/p>\n
In addition to Cech\u2019s win in the 100 free consolation race, freshman Emily Breen touched the wall at 52.12 for a sixth-place finish. In the 200 breaststroke consolation final, senior Keryn Krynauw (2:19.25), junior Kristan Keelan (2:19.30) and sophomore Emma Dutton (2:19.59) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively. The Lady Seminoles had two swimmers finish in the 200 butterfly consolation race: freshmen Lisa How (2:04.93, fifth-place) and Emily Armond (2:05.17, seventh-place).<\/p>\n
The Lady Seminoles ended the invitational by placing two relay teams in the top eight in the 400-yard free relay. The team of Breen, Cech, freshman Loren Hansen and Dutton placed fourth with a time of 3:25.54. In eighth-place, the freshman relay squad of Elizabeth Parkinson, Kayce Zemina, Christie Pesce and Jennie Lyes touched the wall at 3:29.73.<\/p>\n
The meet was won by defending three-time national champions the University of Georgia (ranked No. 2 nationally) with a score of 813.5. Northwestern, ranked No. 17, finished second with 611 points and No. 21 Michigan placed third (511 points).<\/p>\n
