BISMARCK, North Dakota, June 16. THE USA Paralympics Swimming Trials closed like it opened, with world records from Jessica Long and Victoria Arlen. USA Paralympics will name the Paralympic roster soon.<\/p>\n
Long kept adding to her world record tally, coming into today officially at four even though she'd swam under 50 split world records as well. This morning, Long blasted a 2:37.71 in the women's SM8 200 IM, besting her world record of 2:38.15 from Aug. 2011. She then cut nearly two more seconds off the standard with a blistering 2:36.00 during finals. Long just missed another world record, this one in the women's S8 100 free. She posted a 1:06.53, just shy of her world and American record of 1:06.50 set in Aug. 2011. <\/p>\n
Victoria Arlen snared another world record, this time with a sterling time of 1:14.74 in the women's S6 100 free. That performance wiped out the 1:15.97 set by Eleanor Simmonds in Aug. 2010. Her prelim swim of 1:16.54 also smashed the American record of 1:18.66 Arlen set at GTAC in May of this year, before she lowered it again this evening with her global mark. <\/p>\n
Mallory Weggemann clipped her American record in the women's S7 100 free with a 1:08.42. The effort undercut her 1:08.45 from Aug. 2010, and moved her closer to Jacqueline Freney's world record of 1:08.03 set earlier this year at Aussie Trials. <\/p>\n
Haley Beranbaum twice lowered the women's SM5 200 IM American record with a 4:26.03 and 4:25.09 in prelims and finals. She held the previous record with a 4:31.77 from May of this year. <\/p>\n
Anna Johannes downed the American record in the women's SM9 200 IM during prelims with a 2:41.50 before winning the race with a 2:43.93 at night. The prelim time cut her 2:42.75 from April of this year. <\/p>\n
Evan Austin shot down another American record, this time with a 2:38.17 in the men's SM8 200 IM. That swim eclipsed the 2:39.79 set by Travis Mohr at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens. He returned in the men's S8 100 free with an American record 1:04.95. The effort surpassed the 1:05.86 also set by Mohr in Athens. <\/p>\n
Justin Zook picked up a 57.64 in the men's S9 100 freestyle finale, undercutting the American record 58.14 set by Cody Bureau at the 2008 Paralympics in Beijing. <\/p>\n
Kayla Wheeler turned in a 2:55.97 in the women's S1 100 freestyle, crushing the 3:04.40 American record she set at the Jimi Flowers meet in Feb. of this year. Alyssa Gialamas posted a 1:36.63 in the women's S5 100 free, cutting more than two seconds from her American record of 1:39.27 from July 2011. <\/p>\n
Rafael Castillo put up a 1:14.46 on the scoreboard in the men's S6 100 freestyle, lowering his prelims American record. His prelim time of 1:15.31bested the American record of 1:17.75 posted by Martin Parker back in 1992. Lantz Lamback tied his American record in the men's S7 100 free with a preliminary 1:02.10 before winning finals with a 1:03.55. <\/p>\n
Ian Silverman clocked a 16:56.83 in the men's S10 1500 freestyle, clearing the American record of 17:07.06 set by Joe Wise in March 2009.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
