TWELVE athletes will participate in the diving events for the host country at the Olympics this summer, highlighted by the duo of Thomas Daley and Peter Waterfield, who will compete as a pair in the platform synchro event and separately in the individual platform event. Daley is one of Great Britain&#039;s hopes for a medal, and could very well win gold, as he did at the 2009 world championships as a 15-year-old. Waterfield will be attending his fourth Olympics, and has a silver medal from the 2004 Games in the platform synchro event. <\/p>\n<p>If you&#039;re planning to swim a time trial or two at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha, make other plans. USA Swimming announced yesterday afternoon that time trials have been scrapped due to the large number of registered athletes at the meet. This would be the first time in recent history time trials have not been offered at a major US national meet.<\/p>\n<p>The American men&#039;s water polo team is looking to replicate the gold-medal feat pulled off by their female teammates at the FINA world league super final this week in Kazakhstan.  So far, the Americans have won their first two matches, beating the host country 11-8 yesterday and defeating China 6-4 today. The men will have a tougher battle than the women, as they likely have to get past defending champion Serbia at some point in the tournament.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, June 13.
