NEWARK, Del. \u2013 A wealth of experience and great success as a swimmer and a coach, is exactly what Pablo Marmolejo<\/strong> brings to the University of Delaware.<\/p>\n

Marmolejo, a former Delaware assistant and Mexican National Team member, will take over the reins<\/a> of the Blue Hens Swimming & Diving program.<\/p>\n

He was an assistant at UD from 2012-2015 before taking over as the head coach and program director at the Delaware Swim Team, an elite club that earned national recognition over the past three years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are extremely excited about Pablo\u2019s vision for our Men\u2019s and Women\u2019s Swimming & Diving program, as well as his ability to develop swimmers and divers and passion for recruiting,\u201d Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Services Chrissi Rawak\u00a0<\/b>said. \u201cHe has an excellent network that will serve us well in attracting talented student-athletes to the University of Delaware.\u201d<\/p>\n

Over the past three years, Marmolejo has managed daily operations of the 350-member Delaware Swim Team, which earned Top-35 national rankings by the USA Swimming\u2019s Club of Excellence Rating program three times. During his time as the head coach and program director, he coached swimmers to the USA National Junior Team, the USA Olympic Trials and the World Championship Trials.<\/p>\n

13 of his swimmers qualified to the USA Swimming Scholastic All-Americans, while he coached the DIAA Swimmers of the year twice and the PIAA Female Swimmer of the Meet twice.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited and humbled by the opportunity to be back at UD. I want to thank Chrissi, Jenn Judy and Bob Lopez for trusting that I am the right person for the job. The opportunity to lead this program is a privilege and an honor. I\u2019m excited to work with our student-athletes to help them achieve their academic and athletic goals to bring the success that is expected from this program.\u201d<\/p>\n

This will be Marmolejo\u2019s second stint with the Blue Hens as he served as an assistant and the recruiting director for three seasons (2012-2015). During his time, he coached the sprint and middle distance groups that led to 13 individual program records and one conference record.<\/p>\n

His start in coaching came at his alma mater, West Virginia, where he served as a graduate assistant from 2009-2011.<\/p>\n

Marmolejo\u2019s experience as a swimmer is just as impressive as his coaching accolades.<\/p>\n

During his time at WVU, he was a three-time Big East Conference Champion in the 200 butterfly, earning NCAA All-America status in 2006 and 2007. He was also an 11-year member of the Mexican National Team, where he was the national record holder in the 200 butterfly and represented Mexico in the FINA World Championships, the Pan American Games, the FISU World University Games, the Central American Games and the Central American Championships.<\/p>\n

He earned his Bachelor\u2019s Degree in Sport Management from WVU in 2009 and his Master\u2019s Degree in Public Administration in 2011 from WVU.<\/p>\n

Marmolejo and his wife, Kelyn, have a newborn son, Diego, and reside in New Castle County.<\/p>\n
