{"id":307928,"date":"2018-05-03T13:26:06","date_gmt":"2018-05-03T20:26:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=307928"},"modified":"2018-05-03T13:26:06","modified_gmt":"2018-05-03T20:26:06","slug":"hope-college-coach-john-patnott-to-receive-lifetime-achievement-award-from-csdca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/hope-college-coach-john-patnott-to-receive-lifetime-achievement-award-from-csdca\/","title":{"rendered":"Hope College Coach John Patnott to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award from CSDCA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Retiring Hope College coach <strong>John Patnott<\/strong> is humbled that he will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America next week at the organization\u2019s annual awards banquet.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The 58th annual CSCAA event will be held <span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1336348375\"><span class=\"aQJ\">Tuesday, May 7,<\/span><\/span> at the Hilton Orrington in Evanston, Illinois. Patnott will be recognized along with retiring Wheaton (Illinois) College head coach <strong>Jon Lederhouse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cIt\u2019s really an honor to be recognized. There are many deserving coaches out there,\u201d Patnott said. \u201cThis is totally unexpected. I never look for awards like this, so when they come, it\u2019s a bit of a surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Patnott announced last month that he will retire from coaching and teaching after the 2018-19 school year.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">He founded Hope\u2019s swimming &amp; diving program in 1978 and, during his tenure, he has coached 30 national champions, 118 All-Americans, 41 Academic All-Americans, 19 women&#8217;s Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association team champions, and 12 men&#8217;s MIAA team champions. He was named NCAA Division III National Coach of the Year three times by the CSCAA: 1998 and 1994 for the women, and 1991 for the men.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Kirk Brumels<\/strong>, chairperson of Hope\u2019s Department of Kinesiology, said this is an amazing award which appropriately recognizes the work of someone we know as an outstanding professor, swim coach, mentor, colleague and friend of many.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cHope and Hope College Athletics has been fortunate that we have been and continue to be the main recipients of JP\u2019s lifetime of achievement,\u201d Brumels said. \u201cIt has truly been an honor for many of us to learn from and work with JP.
