Burns is a multiple time YMCA National Champion and YMCA National record holder. He&#8217;s a junior at Conestoga High School and swims for Upper Main Line YMCA in Berwyn, Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>His best times include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>50 Back 21.72<\/li>\n<li>100 Back 46.24<\/li>\n<li>200 Back 1:42.17<\/li>\n<li>200 Fly 1:42.94<\/li>\n<li>100 Fly 46.61<\/li>\n<li>200 IM 1:47.20<\/li>\n<li>200 Free 1:36.01<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At YMCA Nationals in April Burns won the 100 and 200 backstroke and butterfly events. He set National records in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-brendan-burns-breaks-tim-phillips-100-fly-ymca-national-mark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-brendan-burns-adds-to-ymca-national-record-tally-in-200-fly\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">200 butterfly<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/race-video-brendan-burns-destroys-100-backstroke-ymca-national-record\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">100 backstroke<\/a>. His best times will have a significant impact for the Hoosiers in the Big Ten. At this year&#8217;s Championship meet he would have finished third in the 100 backstroke and 200 fly and fifth in the 200 backstroke. He would have landed in the 100 fly B final as well.<\/p>\n<p>With a year left in his high school career Burns is already closing in on NCAA scoring. It took a 1:42.40 to sneak into the 200 fly B final at March&#8217;s National Championship. Burns is only a half second shy of that mark. A 45.80 was 16th after prelims of the 100 backstroke this year, another time that Burns is only a half second away from.<\/p>\n<p>He wrote in his announcement made on Twitter,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Proud to announce my verbal commitment to Indiana University!
