June 6.  THERE is a free 1-mile open water swim in Boston Harbor, Massachusetts on June 16th to honor International Marathon Swimming Hall of Famer Jim Doty.<\/p>\n<p>The bedrock of the New England open water swimming community, <a href=\"http:\/\/openwaterpedia.com\/index.php?title=James_Doty\"target=\"_blank\">Doty<\/a> dedicated his life to promoting swimming and a clean environment in New England waters.  His legacy will be celebrated at the <a href=\"http:\/\/openwaterpedia.com\/index.php?title=Jim_Doty_Memorial_Mile_Swim\"target=\"_blank\">Jim Doty Memorial Mile Swim<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The founder of the New England Marathon Swimming Association was a former track star and Harvard University graduate who re-started the Boston Light Swim back in the mid-1970s.  Through his passion and personality, here-ignited the entire open water swimming community throughout New England.  <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/openwaterpedia.com\/index.php?title=Jim_Doty_Memorial_Mile_Swim\"target=\"_blank\">Jim Doty Memorial Mile Swim<\/a> is on June 16th at the <a href=\"http:\/\/openwaterpedia.com\/index.php?title=L_Street_Brownies_Club\"target=\"_blank\">L Street Bathhouse<\/a> (<a href=\"http:\/\/openwaterpedia.com\/index.php?title=Curley_Community_Center\"target=\"_blank\">Curley Community Center<\/a>) in South Boston.  Attendance is requested to be confirm on the Boston Light Swim <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/341604555893640\/\"target=\"_blank\">Facebook group<\/a>.
