The last day of action from the 2018 Russian Swimming Nationals ended in Moscow today, with some of the biggest names of the meet collecting a few more wins and narrowly missing some of their own national records. <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 400 Free<\/b><\/h3>\n

The session started with a near-miss of the national record in the women\u2019s 400 freestyle, as <\/span>Veronika Andrusenko<\/b> won in 4:06.73. That was less than half a second off of the existing Russian record from 2008. In second was <\/span>Anna Egorova <\/b>(4:09.48) followed by <\/span>Anastasia Gushenkova <\/b>(4:12.11) in third. <\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 400 IM<\/b><\/h3>\n

Maxin Stupin <\/b>won a tightly contested 400 IM final, holding off a charging <\/span>Alexander Oaipenko <\/b>down the stretch to come away with the win, 4:16.90 to 4:17.08. In third was <\/span>Danil Zaitsev <\/b>(4:18.66), the only other competitor under 4:20.<\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200 Backstroke<\/b><\/h3>\n

European record holder <\/span>Evgeny Rylov <\/b>added another win to his meet in the men\u2019s 200 back, touching the wall in 1:53.71 to just miss his own record by just a tenth. Out with him at the 100 was <\/span>Kliment Kolesnikov<\/b>, but the teenager faded in the second 100 to finish in 1:55.91, still within a second of his own world junior record. <\/span>Gregory Tarasevich <\/b>rounded out the podium in third with a 1:57.83.<\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 IM<\/b><\/h3>\n

Victoria Andreeva <\/b>was able to overcome a strong breaststroke leg by <\/span>Yulia Efimova <\/b>to take the win in the 200 IM with a 2:12.15. Efimova outsplit Andreeva by more than four seconds on the breaststroke leg (35.27 to 39.47) to have the lead going into the final 50, but she couldn\u2019t hold on during the freestyle leg. Efimova ended up second in 2:12.82, just ahead of third place <\/span>Irina Krivonogova<\/b> (2:13.03). <\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 Freestyle<\/b><\/h3>\n

Vlad Morozov <\/b>had his third win of the meet in the men\u2019s 50 free, besting the rest of the field by more than half a second to finish first in 21.47. That was just .03 off of his own Russian record from last year and made him the only competitor under 22 seconds in the entire field. In second was <\/span>Sergey Fesikov <\/b>(22.10) while <\/span>Ivan Kuzmenenko <\/b>(22.12) finished third. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 Butterfly<\/b><\/h3>\n

Sophia Spodarenko <\/b>held off the 100 and 200 butterfly champion <\/span>Svetlana Chimrova <\/b>to earn the win in the women\u2019s 50 butterfly, touching the wall in 26.52 to finish .03 ahead of Chimrova. The two were well ahead of the field and the only two swimmers under 27 seconds. In third was <\/span>Anastasia Lyazeva <\/b>(27.17). <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 Breaststroke<\/b><\/h3>\n

In her third swim of the night (she had to contest the semi-finals of the 50 breast at the beginning of the session) <\/span>Yulia Efimova <\/b>came away with a win, touching first in 30.33. In second was <\/span>Natalia Ivaneeva <\/b>(30.66), who also qualified to compete in the event at the European Championships, and in third was <\/span>Anna Hanus <\/b>(31.46). <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 100 Freestyle<\/b><\/h3>\n

Maria Kameneva <\/b>won an extremely tight final in the women\u2019s 100 free, touching first in 54.35 to finish just ahead of <\/span>Veronika Andrusenko <\/b>(54.47) and <\/span>Arina Openysheva <\/b>(54.68). <\/span><\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 4×100 Medley Relay<\/b><\/h3>\n

The team from Moscow won the men\u2019s 4×100 medley relay, with Kolesnikov (53.49), <\/span>Anton Chupkov <\/b>(59.12), <\/span>Evgeny Koptelov <\/b>(52.32), and Morozov (47.62) besting the rest of the field by about 3 seconds. Notably, <\/span>Cyril Privacy <\/b>from the St. Petersburg team had the fastest 100 breaststroke of the field (58.71), while teammate <\/span>Alexander Popkov <\/b>had the fastest 100 butterfly (51.85). <\/span><\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 4×100 Medley Relay<\/b><\/h3>\n

The team from Moscow also took the women\u2019s 4×100 medley relay, as the team of <\/span>Daria Vaskina <\/b>(1:01.07), <\/span>Nika Godoon <\/b>(1:09.46), Chimrova (57.44), and <\/span>Rosalina Nasretdinova <\/b>(55.79) won by just over half a second.
