AUSTIN, Texas, June 3. QUICK 200 butterfly swims by Michael Phelps and Cammile Adams highlighted the final night of racing at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center in Austin. <\/p>\n
Cammile Adams of Aggie Swim Club earned her second win in as many nights with a sizzling 2:07.35 in the women's 200 fly, not far off her best time of 2:06.76 that she swam in January at this same pool. Longhorn's Kathleen Hersey led at the halfway point but faded to second in 2:08.45. Caroline McElhany, also out of Aggie Swim Club, finished third in 2:11.80. <\/p>\n
Michael Phelps looks to be right on track for London after a dominating swim in the men's 200 fly. Phelps cruised to a time of 1:54.79, the third fastest time in the world this year behind Takeshi Matsuda (1:54.01) and Nick D'Arcy (1:54.71). Phelps' previous best time this year had been a 1:55.32 from the Columbus Grand Prix in March. Club Wolverine's Wu Peng, who has challenged Phelps in this event recently, couldn't keep up tonight and finished in 1:56.71. Neil Caskey took third in 1:59.82. <\/p>\n
After setting an NCAA and American record in the 100-yard breast this March, Aggie Swim Club's Breeja Larson has shown steady improvement in long course in recent months. Tonight, she out-touched Longhorn's Laura Sogar, 1:08.08 to 1:08.15, after both swimmers turned even at the 50 in 32.79. North Baltimore's Annie Zhu touched third in 1:10.33.<\/p>\n
In the men's 100 breast, Longhorn's Brendan Hansen built a commanding lead and swam away from the pack with a final time of 1:01.16. Cougar's Nicolas Fink separated himself for second with a 1:02.62 while Longhorn's Eric Friedland placed third in 1:03.77. <\/p>\n
The women's 100 back, which is already shaping up to be one of the most competitive events at Trials in a few weeks, just got even more competitive. Megan Romano of Athens Bulldog swam a 1:00.19, tied for the 12th fastest swim in the world this year and right in the mix with the top American times year. It should be a very fast final in Omaha to say the least. Romano's teammate, Kristen Shickora, finished second in 1:01.81, just ahead of Mizzou's Dominique Bouchard (1:01.95). <\/p>\n
Matt Thompson of Stanford took home the men's 100 back title with a 55.88, out-touching a trio of swimmers in Patrick Murphy (56.01), George Bovell (56.06) and Kip Darmody (56.08). <\/p>\n
Longhorn's Karlee Bispo sliced three seconds off her preliminary time to win the women's 200 IM in 2:13.32 with Shannon Vreeland of Athens Bulldog right behind (2:13.80). St. Petersburg's Melanie Margalis rounded out the podium with a 2:15.28. Bradley Ally of Club Wolverine garnered the men's title with a 2:00.80. Chase Kalisz of North Baltimore was second (2:02.36) and Austin Surhoff, swimming unattached, was third (2:02.73). <\/p>\n
Wendy Trott of Athens Bulldog claimed the women's 800 free title in 8:29.21, three seconds in front of North Baltimore's Gillian Ryan (8:32.46). Sarah Henry of Aggie Swim Club took third in 8:41.72. Connor Jaeger of Club Wolverine earned the men's 1500 free title with a 15:16.84, with Badger's Ryan Feeley (15:20.78) and SwimAtlanta's Will Freeman (15:48.18) rounding out the podium.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
