VANCOUVER, British Columbia, May 27. CANADIAN record-holder Scott Dickens continued his impressive meet with another meet record, as did Australian Hayden Stoeckel as the Mel Zajac Jr. International wrapped up in Vancouver. <\/p>\n
The women's 800 free opened the final night of swimming at the Mel Zajac Jr. International. Hometown favorite Savannah King gave the crowd a win with a first-place time of 8:38.85. Hyack's Sherry Liu finished close behind in 8:40.85, while Team Manitoba's Breanne Siwicki got third in 8:56.86.<\/p>\n
Queensland's Leisel Jones won a tight race in the women's 50 breast with a time of 31.54. Oakville's Tera Van Beilen was right on her heels with a 31.68. Vancouver's Martha McCabe, the winner in the 200 last night, took third in 32.49. Vancouver's Scott Dickens has been on a roll at this meet, and he took down another meet record in the men's 50 breast with a 27.98. Club Wolverine's Barry Murphy also bettered the previous record of 28.35 with a 28.13. Edmonton Keyano's Richard Funk posted a 28.65 for third.<\/p>\n
Tualatin Hills' Michelle Cefal posted a quick final 50 to win the women's 200 fly by a hair, 2:14.02 to 2:14.19 over Vancouver's Noemie Thomas. Kendra Chernoff of U of A Swim Club placed third in 2:17.62. David Dimitrov of Liquid Lightning brought home a title in the men's 200 fly, holding on for a time of 2:04.83. Tualatin Hills' Cameron Stitt recorded a 2:06.32 for second. Steve Sholdra of Bellevue Club was third in 2:06.47.<\/p>\n
Queensland's Yolane Kukla earned her third win of the meet in the women's 100 free after previously winning the 50 free and 100 fly. She touched in 55.48, ahead of Calgary's Amanda Reason (56.34) and Team Manitoba's Chantal VanLandeghem (56.68). Canadian record-holder Brent Hayden finished well off his time of 47.27, but still had enough to beat Korea's Tae Hwan Park in the men's 100 free, 49.45 to 49.61. Hayden also won the 50 free last night.<\/p>\n
Meagan Nay, the champion in the 200 back two nights ago, clocked a 1:01.33 to win the 100 tonight. Colombia's Isabella Arcila wound up second in 1:02.16, followed by Heidi VanderWel of King Aquatics (1:03.85). Australian Hayden Stoeckel slipped under the meet record in the men's 100 back with a 54.62, under the previous time of 54.93. Mitchell Larkin of Queensland (55.97) and Jake Tapp of Langley Olympians (57.49) rounded out the top three.<\/p>\n
Korea's Lee Hyunseung got an early lead in the men's 1500 free and built from there, winning by more than eight seconds in 15:27.41 over Island Swimming's Eric Hedlin (15:35.94). Hedlin's teammate, Will Brothers, finished third in 15:49.40.<\/p>\n
The men's and women's 4×100 medley relay wrapped up the meet. Queensland's quartet of Meagan Nay, Leisel Jones, Stephanie Rice and Yolane Kukla set a new meet record of 4:07.89 to win the women's event, nearly 14 seconds ahead of the second-place Canadian Youth Team.
