{"id":306378,"date":"2018-04-16T14:17:09","date_gmt":"2018-04-16T21:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=306378"},"modified":"2018-04-16T17:38:39","modified_gmt":"2018-04-17T00:38:39","slug":"wagner-closes-out-a-third-straight-undefeated-maac-womens-water-polo-season-sea-hawks-again-cop-top-seed-in-postseason-tournament","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/wagner-closes-out-a-third-straight-undefeated-maac-womens-water-polo-season-sea-hawks-again-cop-top-seed-in-postseason-tournament\/","title":{"rendered":"Wagner Closes Out a 3rd-Straight Undefeated MAAC Women\u2019s Water Polo Season; Seahawks Again Top Seed in Postseason Tournament"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Continuing one of the more dominant stretches in NCAA varsity women\u2019s water polo, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wagnerathletics.com\/index.aspx?path=wpolo&amp;\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wagner College<\/a> finished a third-straight undefeated season of <a href=\"http:\/\/maacsports.com\/index.aspx?path=wwpolo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference<\/a> (MAAC) play with decisive wins yesterday over St. Francis Brooklyn and Marist.<\/p>\n<p>Now riding a 42-match regular-season winning streak, the Seahawks (22-6, 14-0 MAAC)\u2014who have already won four straight conference titles and with them back-to-back-to-back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament\u2014captured the top seed in the upcoming MAAC championship, to be held on April 28-29, in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goredfoxes.com\/sports\/2011\/8\/8\/205241111.aspx\">McCann Natatorium<\/a>\u00a0on the campus of Marist College.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Chris Radmonovich\u2019s<\/strong> squad will face No. 4 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.vmikeydets.com\/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=9800&amp;SPID=72435&amp;KEY=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Virginia Military Institute<\/a> (20-10, 8-6 MAAC) in the first semifinal matchup of the championship on\u00a0Saturday, April 28. This is the Keydets\u2014led by <strong>Shelby Barkley\u2019s<\/strong> 100 goals\u2014make their second-straight appearance in the postseason after seven years of MAAC membership.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Foxes of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goredfoxes.com\/roster.aspx?path=wwpolo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marist<\/a> (19-16, 12-2 MAAC) again slot in at No. 2 seed and will look to end four years of title game frustration against Wagner, their primary conference antagonists. First, they will have to beat No. 3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icgaels.com\/index.aspx?path=wwpolo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Iona College<\/a> (12-22, 9-5 MAAC) in Saturday, April 28\u2019s second semifinal contest. Key to the contest will be how Head Coach <strong>Chris Vidale\u2019s<\/strong> charges handle senior <strong>Hannah Schultz<\/strong>, who powered the Gaels with 91 goals.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of VMI, there\u2019s been very little change over the years in the postseason line-up for the MAAC. Marist returns to the MAAC Water Polo Championship for the 15th\u00a0year in a row, while Iona and Wagner are making their 16th-straight trips.<\/p>\n<p>One newcomer who made a tremendous impact on the conference is St. Francis Brooklyn\u2019s <strong>Kelsey Snelgar<\/strong>.
