University of Michigan men’s swimmer Ricardo Vargas<\/strong> won three events and qualified for the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games at the Arena Grand Prix de Nataci\u00f3n Senior, held at the Complejo Acu\u00e1tico del Centro de Alto Rendimiento (April 12-15).<\/p>\n

Fresh off his first season in Maize and Blue, Vargas won the 400-meter freestyle (3:54.07), the 400-meter IM (4:23.18) and the 1,500-meter freestyle (15:17.23). He also took third in the 200-meter freestyle (1:51.28).<\/p>\n

With the three individual wins, Vargas will now represent Mexico at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games, held July 19-Aug. 3<\/span> in Barranquilla, Colombia.<\/p>\n

Vargas was a two-time All-American in 2018, finaling in both the 500-freestyle (eighth) and 1,650-yard freestyle (seventh) at the NCAA Championships. He was named Big Ten Freshman of the Year after winning three individual medals at the Big Ten Championships. A 2016 Olympian, Vargas is the Mexican national record-holder in the 400-, 800- and 1,500-meter freestyles in both long course and short course.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
