The Northwestern Athletics Department announced on Friday, April 13th that\u00a0Jarod Schroeder<\/strong>, the head coach for Northwestern’s men’s swimming and diving program, would be stepping away from that role. This comes just a few days after Northwestern women’s head coach\u00a0Abby Steketee<\/strong>\u00a0would be stepping away from her role as well.<\/p>\n

According to a press release from Northwestern’s website<\/a>, Schroeder will be stepping away from the program to pursue graduate school full-time. Schroeder has coached at the Northwestern in some capacity for sixteen seasons, including the last nine as head coach of the men’s program.<\/p>\n

Most recently, Schroeder mentored U.S. Olympian\u00a0Jordan Wilimovsky<\/strong>, who left Northwestern as a five-time All-American and in 2016 became the first U.S. swimmer to qualify for the Olympics in both the open water and pool events. Northwestern men’s swimming and diving head coach\u00a0Jarod Schroeder<\/a>\u00a0<\/dfn>will step away from leading the program in order to pursue a graduate degree full-time, the University announced Friday.<\/p>\n

“We are extremely grateful for Jarod and his dedication to our men’s swimming and diving program,” said Vice President for Athletics & Recreation\u00a0Jim Phillips<\/a><\/dfn>. “For nearly a decade, his student-athletes and staff have been great representatives of Northwestern University. We wish Jarod and his family all the best moving forward.”<\/p>\n

Schroeder spent nine seasons as the head coach of the Wildcats, following one season as an assistant with the program. He also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Northwestern from 2000-06.<\/p>\n

“I am so appreciative for the opportunity that Northwestern and Dr. Phillips have provided me,” said Schroeder. “Thank you to all the world-class student-athletes, coaches and administrators I’ve had the privilege of working with during my time here. I hold this University in the highest regard and look forward to seeing the continued progress this swimming and diving program makes in the future. My family and I are excited about this next chapter in our lives.”<\/p>\n

Northwestern will conduct a national search for the Wildcats next head coach.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
