Smith won the 800 free and also swam unconventional events in the 200 IM and 200 fly. Kalisz continued his strong meet with wins in the 200 fly and 200 IM as well.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vmrw8k5h.tinifycdn.com\/results\/pdf\/2018-tyr-pro-swim-series-mesa-day-2-finals-heat-sheets-day-2-usa-senior-national-2018-04-13.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Heat Sheet<\/a><br \/>\nStream: Olympic Channel<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/omegatiming.com\/Competition?id=0001120100ffffffffffffffffffffff&amp;day=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Live Results<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 800 Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>is swimming her first meet as an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/leah-smith-moving-to-tucson-to-train-at-university-of-arizona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona post grad swimmer<\/a>\u00a0as she moved to Tucson in October. Smith drove shortly down the road to Mesa as she won the 800 free final on Friday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series with an 8:31.79.<\/p>\n<p>Smith won by almost ten full seconds over another swimmer who made post grad training changes\u00a0<strong>Ashley Neidigh<\/strong>, who moved from Auburn to IU over the summer. Neidigh was second at 8:41.23. On Friday night, the two went at it again, this time it was Grothe who got the upper hand with a 7:55.53 to defeat El Kamash. The Egyptian was second at 7:55.75.<\/p>\n<p>Those two swam away from\u00a0<strong>Jordan Wilimovsky\u00a0<\/strong>who is swimming his first pool competition since the French Open in July 2017. Smoliga won the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/olivia-smoliga-scores-200-back-win-in-mesa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">200 back<\/a> on Thursday night and followed that with a more familiar win in the 100 on Friday. She won the 100 final with a 1:00.08 in a comfortable win over\u00a0<strong>Ali DeLoof\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.27).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katharine Berkoff<\/strong>, the daughter of two time Olympian\u00a0<strong>David Berkoff<\/strong>, finished in third at 1:01.69, ahead of\u00a0<strong>Keaton Blovad\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.77).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Amy Bilquist\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.99),\u00a0<strong>Isabella Arcila\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.55),\u00a0<strong>Hellen Moffitt\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.02) and\u00a0<strong>Sonnele Oeztuerk\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.32) also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Back<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>never ceases to amaze. The Cal post grad swimmer won the 100 back final on Friday night at the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series in Mesa with a 53.98 to beat\u00a0<strong>Matt Grevers\u00a0<\/strong>(54.51). Murphy was out in a 26.67 and came back in a 27.31 as he almost even split a 100 back. It isn&#8217;t uncommon to see splits that close together in a 100 back, but Murphy was the only one in the field in Mesa tonight to get his two 50&#8217;s that close together.<\/p>\n<p>Murphy also won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/ryan-murphy-runs-away-from-jacob-pebley-in-200-back-in-mesa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">200 back<\/a> last night. His Cal teammate\u00a0<strong>Jacob Pebley\u00a0<\/strong>also swam in the final tonight as he placed fourth with a 54.88.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark Nikolaev\u00a0<\/strong>(54.77),\u00a0<strong>Zachary Poti\u00a0<\/strong>(56.24),\u00a0<strong>Youssef Said<\/strong> (56.47),\u00a0<strong>Nikkos Sofianidis\u00a0<\/strong>(56.70) and\u00a0<strong>Joey Reilman\u00a0<\/strong>(57.12) also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Fly<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Hali Flickinger\u00a0<\/strong>has been the premiere 200 butterflyer in the USA since she was second at the Olympic Trials in 2016. Flickinger is the face of an event that the United States has not had a gold medal internationally in since\u00a0<strong>Misty Hyman\u00a0<\/strong>in 2000, and she has showed consistency so far the last few years. He won the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chase-kalisz-cruises-to-a-414-in-400-im-in-mesa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">400 IM on Thursday night<\/a>, and won the 200 fly on Friday night. He won the 200 fly with a 1:56.69 as he won ahead of Arizona&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Justin Wright\u00a0<\/strong>(1:57.77).<\/p>\n<p>Kalisz led from start to finish as he will be looking to fill the void in the 200 butterfly left by three-time Olympic champion\u00a0<strong>Michael Phelps<\/strong>. Kalisz was third at World Championship trials last summer, missing a chance to swim the race in Budapest.<\/p>\n<p>Someone who did swim the 200 fly in Budapest, fellow Bulldog\u00a0<strong>Pace Clark\u00a0<\/strong>(1:59.67) placed third here in Mesa as he just barely broke two minutes. She has been on fire every time she steps in the pool after she already put the world on notice in January after swimming\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/molly-hannis-moves-to-fourth-all-time-in-50-breast-in-shootout-in-austin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">one of the fastest 50 breasts<\/a>\u00a0of all-time.<\/p>\n<p>Hannis continued her strong season with a 1:06.65 in the 100 breast in Mesa on Friday night. Hannis finished ahead of a pair of 2012 Olympians in hometown hero\u00a0<strong>Breeja Larson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.28) and\u00a0<strong>Micah Sumrall\u00a0<\/strong>(1:08.43) [the artist formerly known as\u00a0<strong>Micah Lawrence<\/strong>]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Zoe Bartel\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.44),\u00a0<strong>Emily Escobedo\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.24),\u00a0<strong>Peyton Kondis\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.33),\u00a0<strong>Silja Kansakoski\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.63) and\u00a0<strong>Angela Mavrantza\u00a0<\/strong>(1:11.52) also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>18-year-old\u00a0<strong>Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>has also had a pretty solid 2018, along with\u00a0<strong>Molly Hannis<\/strong>, the winner in the previous event. Andrew won the 100 breast handily on Friday night at the 2018 TYR Pro Swim Series meet at Mesa as he just missed breaking a minute in the event with a 1:00.16. Andrew won the race by almost a full second over Grand Canyon&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Youssef El Kamash\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.05) and\u00a0<strong>Kevin Cordes\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.19).<\/p>\n<p>Andrew beat a pretty stacked field that included the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/indianas-ian-finnerty-smashes-100-breast-american-record-becomes-first-man-under-50\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fastest man in short course yards<\/a>,\u00a0<strong>Ian Finnerty<\/strong>, who placed fifth at 1:01.39.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Josh Prenot\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.28),\u00a0<strong>Cody Miller\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.47),\u00a0<strong>Carlos Claverie\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.53) and\u00a0<strong>Andrew Wilson\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.12) also swam in the stacked A-final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 Free<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Mallory Comerford\u00a0<\/strong>ran down the likes of\u00a0<strong>Margo Geer\u00a0<\/strong>on Friday night in the 100 free final at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mesa. Comerford won the 100 free final with a 54.30 ahead of\u00a0Geer (54.42) and\u00a0<strong>Lia Neal\u00a0<\/strong>(54.75).<\/p>\n<p>Comerford is now one of the premiere amateur swimmers and is no longer considered the underdog in the United States realm of swimming. That did not change on Friday night in Mesa as Adrian posted a 48.84 to win the 100 free final.<\/p>\n<p>Adrian finished ahead of fellow 2017 World Championship team member\u00a0<strong>Michael Chadwick\u00a0<\/strong>(49.17). Adrian is now 29 years of age and is still a force to be reckoned with in the world of swimming. That won&#8217;t change in 2018, even despite\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>breaking every barrier imaginable in the sport.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bruno Blaskovic\u00a0<\/strong>(50.01),\u00a0<strong>Jesse Novak\u00a0<\/strong>(50.69),\u00a0<strong>Andrej Barna\u00a0<\/strong>(51.01),\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>(51.18),\u00a0<strong>Matias Koski\u00a0<\/strong>(51.35) and\u00a0<strong>Scott Mcgillivary\u00a0<\/strong>(51.52) also swam in the A-final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>26-year-old veteran of the sport\u00a0<strong>Melanie Margalis\u00a0<\/strong>has also been showing consistency in the 200 IM and other events as she won the 200 IM final on Friday night at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Mesa, Arizona with a 2:13.90. Margalis has been one of USA Swimming&#8217;s best in season swimmers the last few years, as well as one of the most versatile.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most versatile is\u00a0<strong>Leah Smith<\/strong>, who swam her third race of the night, and finished in second place at 2:16.68. He won the 200 IM on Friday night with a 1:57.68 after he earlier won the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/chase-kalisz-muscles-out-200-fly-win-in-mesa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">200 fly<\/a>.
