Several big stars had strong prelims during Day 2 of the\u00a0 TYR Pro Swim Series meet in Mesa, Arizona.<\/p>\n

Chase Kalisz, Michael Chadwick, Jacob Pebley, Olivia Smoliga, Hali Flickinger, Melanie Margalis<\/strong> and Josh Prenot<\/strong> were among the swimmers to earn top seeds for the Day 2 finals.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 100 Back<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Athens Bulldog’s\u00a0Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> cruised to the top seed with a time of 1:01.19, putting her in position for a backstroke sweep after a pair of 2:10s in the 200 back on Thursday. Missoula’s\u00a0Katharine Berkoff\u00a0<\/strong>joined Smoliga under 1:02 as she qualified in 1:01.88.<\/p>\n

    Club Wolverine’s\u00a0Ali DeLoof\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 1:02.02, and Cal teammates\u00a0Amy Bilquist\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.63) and\u00a0Keaton Blovad\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.79) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Mission Viejo’s\u00a0Isabella Arcila\u00a0<\/strong>(1:02.95),\u00a0Sonnele Oeztuerk<\/strong> (1:02.99) and Team Elite’s\u00a0Hellen Moffitt\u00a0<\/strong>(1:03.31) also made the A-final.<\/p>\n

    Men’s 100 Back<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Cal’s\u00a0Jacob Pebley\u00a0<\/strong>finished just ahead of teammate\u00a0Ryan Murphy<\/strong> in prelims, 55.95 to 55.98. Murphy won the 200 back ahead of Pebley on Thursday. The two will have some competition in the final from Grand Canyon’s\u00a0Mark Nikolaev<\/strong>, who qualified third in 56.00, and from Tucson Ford’s\u00a0Matt Grevers<\/strong>. The 2012 Olympic gold medalist finished fourth in 56.14.<\/p>\n

    Arizona State’s\u00a0Zachary Poti<\/strong> was fifth in 56.46, ahead of\u00a0Youssef Said\u00a0<\/strong>(56.74), Louisville’s\u00a0Nikkos Sofianidis<\/strong> (57.15) and Tennessee’s\u00a0Joey Reilman\u00a0<\/strong>(57.28).<\/p>\n

    Women’s 200 Fly<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Athens Bulldog’s\u00a0Hali Flickinger\u00a0<\/strong>unleashed a quick time of 2:09.50 in prelims to qualify first for the final by more than two seconds. That’s not too far off Flickinger’s best time this season, a 2:08.04 from the last stop of the TYR Pro Swim Series in Atlanta that ranks her No. 5 in the world so far.<\/p>\n

    Eastern Iowa’s\u00a0Ruby Martin<\/strong> qualified second in 2:11.86, and Cardinal’s\u00a0Kelsi Dahlia\u00a0<\/strong>finished third in 2:13.08. Enfinity’s\u00a0Olivia Carter\u00a0<\/strong>took fourth in 2:14.31, followed by Duke’s\u00a0Isabella Paez<\/strong> (2:14.48). Tucson Ford’s\u00a0Leah Smith\u00a0<\/strong>made a rare butterfly appearance, qualifying sixth in 2:14.84, and she was followed by Louisville’s\u00a0Grace Oglesby\u00a0<\/strong>(2:16.13) and Team Elite’s\u00a0Sarah Gibson\u00a0<\/strong>(2:16.78).<\/p>\n

    Men’s 200 Fly<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Athens Bulldog’s\u00a0Chase Kalisz<\/strong> was the only swimmer to break 2:00 in prelims, coming in with a top time of 1:59.98. Kalisz already won the 400 IM earlier in the meet. Arizona’s\u00a0Justin Wright\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 2:01.18, and South Carolina’s\u00a0Fynn Minuth\u00a0<\/strong>was third in 2:01.42.<\/p>\n

    Louisville’s\u00a0Zach Harting<\/strong> (2:01.67) and Athens Bulldog’s\u00a0Pace Clark\u00a0<\/strong>(2:02.10) were the next two qualifiers, with Georgia’s\u00a0Camden Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>(2:03.39), Louisville’s\u00a0Daniel Sos\u00a0<\/strong>(2:05.46) and Pitchfork’s\u00a0Jarod Arroyo\u00a0<\/strong>(2:06.12) also getting into the final.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 100 Breast<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Tennessee’s\u00a0Molly Hannis\u00a0<\/strong>posted the only performance under 1:08 to lead the way into the championship final. She was followed by NYAC’s\u00a0Breeja Larson<\/strong> (1:08.69) and Chattahoochee Gold’s\u00a0Micah Sumrall\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.45). Also breaking 1:10 were Fort Collins’\u00a0Zoe Bartel\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.71) and Condors’\u00a0Emily Escobedo\u00a0<\/strong>(1:09.79).<\/p>\n

    The last three qualifiers for the final were Houston teammates\u00a0Peyton Kondis\u00a0<\/strong>(1:10.89) and\u00a0Angela Mavrantza\u00a0<\/strong>(1:11.28) and Arizona State’s\u00a0Silja Kansakoski<\/strong> (1:11.35).<\/p>\n

    Men’s 100 Breast<\/strong><\/h3>\n

    Race Pace Club’s\u00a0Michael Andrew\u00a0<\/strong>blasted a prelims time of 1:00.52 to finish almost a second ahead of a strong field. The No. 2 qualifier was Grand Canyon’s\u00a0Youssef El Kamash<\/strong> in 1:01.40, and Louisville’s\u00a0Carlos Claverie\u00a0<\/strong>took third in 1:01.58.<\/p>\n

    Sandpipers’\u00a0Cody Miller\u00a0<\/strong>took fourth in 1:01.67, and Ian Finnerty<\/strong>,Miller’s Indiana training partner and double NCAA champion, took fifth in 1:01.71. American record-holder\u00a0Kevin Cordes\u00a0<\/strong>took sixth in 1:01.73, ahead of\u00a0Cal’s\u00a0Josh Prenot\u00a0<\/strong>(1:01.85) and Longhorn’s\u00a0Andrew Wilson<\/strong> (1:02.00).<\/p>\n

    So strong was the field that Athens Bulldog’s\u00a0Nic Fink<\/strong> ended up ninth in 1:02.47.<\/p>\n

    Women’s 100 free<\/h3>\n

    Mission Viejo’s Margo Geer<\/strong> used a strong first half of the 100 free to earn the top seed in a packed event in 54.85.<\/p>\n

    Louisville’s Mallory Comerford<\/strong> took the second seed at 54.90, followed by USC’s Louise Hansson<\/strong> (55.15), Olympian Lia Neal<\/strong> (26.80), Georgia’s Veronica Burchill<\/strong> (55.40), Athens Bulldogs’ Olivia Smoliga<\/strong> (55.66), Pitchfork Aquatics’ Allison Schmitt<\/strong> and Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil<\/strong> (55.49).<\/p>\n

    Men’s 100 Free<\/h3>\n

    Michael Chadwick<\/strong> continued his strong meet by tying for the top seed in the 100 free with Nathan Adrian<\/strong>. Both finished at 49.72. Adrian had a stronger first 50 and Chadwick had a faster back half.<\/p>\n

    Bruno Blaskovic<\/strong> took the third seed in 50.07, followed by Trojan’s Jesse Novak<\/strong> (50.30), Athens Bulldogs’ Matias Koski<\/strong> (50.79), Scott McGillivray<\/strong> (50.82), Louisville’s Andrej Barna<\/strong> (50.86) and Cal’s Ryan Murphy<\/strong> (51.06).<\/p>\n

    Women’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

    St. Petersburg’s Melanie Margalis<\/strong> took the top seed in the 200 IM, cruising to the wall in 2:15.59.<\/p>\n

    Tuscon Ford’s Leah Smith<\/strong> finished with the second seed in 2:16.84, followed by Connie Dean<\/strong> (2:17.06), Vien Nguyen<\/strong> (2:17.65), Zoe Bartel<\/strong> (2:19.01), Ilektra Lebl<\/strong> (2:19.41), Emily Escobedo<\/strong> (2:19.89) and Callie Dickinson<\/strong> (2:20.30).<\/p>\n

    Men’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n

    Cal’s Josh Prenot<\/strong> took the top seed in the 200 IM with a 2:03.95, setting up a finals showdown with Athens Bulldogs’ Chase Kalisz<\/strong> (2:05.07), who took the second seed.<\/p>\n

    Isaac Stump<\/strong> took the third seed (2:05.84), followed by Gianluca Urland<\/strong>o (2:06.01), Daniel Sos<\/strong> (2:06.18), Danny Comforti<\/strong> (2:07.07), Carlos Claverie<\/strong> (2:07.73) and Jarod Arroyo<\/strong> (2:08.14).<\/p>\n
