TWO college coaches announced their retirements yesterday. Skip Kenney is leaving Stanford after 37 years there, guiding the Cardinal men&#039;s team to seven NCAA titles and scores of individual college champions and Olympians. What is most amazing about his success is that Kenney was never a competitive swimmer. He served in the Marines and his first coaching job was with the San Francisco 49ers football team. Kenney will serve as Stanford coach until the end of the Olympic Trials on July 2.<\/p>\n<p>Jim Richardson will be stepping down as head coach of the women&#039;s team at Michigan on June 30 after 27 years there. Richardson&#039;s heyday was in the 1980s and 1990s, when the Wolverines won 12 consecutive Big 10 championships. He&#039;s also coached a few NCAA champions, including Emily Brunemann most recently.<\/p>\n<p>The USA women&#039;s water polo team was officially named today in a lunchtime event in Los Angeles. The 13 members of the team include goalie Betsey Armstrong and other players that were on the 2008 Olympic squad that claimed the silver medal, including Elsie Windes and Brenda Villa.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, May 17.
