Martin Grodzki cleared the FINA A cut (15:11.83) in the men's 1500 free with a winning time of 15:10.47, but will have to wait until the European Championships to find out for sure if Germany will nominate him for an Olympic spot as the internal German mark if 15:05.27 for this meet. Germany has a multiple-stage Olympic qualifying process that includes the European Championships as well as tougher initial times than just the FINA A cut. Grodzki improved to 22nd in the world with his swim. Soren Meibner (15:18.39) and Jan Wolfgarten (15:18.46) completed the top three. Sarah Kohler captured the women's 800 free title in 8:34.28, off the FINA A cut of 8:33.84. Isabelle Harle placed second in 8:37.93, while Denise Gruhn earned third in 8:48.39. <\/p>\n
In non-Olympic distances, Caroline Ruhnau won the women's 50 breast in 31.66, touching out Laura Simon (31.70) in the process. Ruhnau's top time this year is a seventh-ranked 31.33 from March, while Simon jumped to 18th in the world rankings with her swim, that also served as a German age group standard. Margarethe Hummel, 15, placed third in 31.91 for a German age group record of her own as well. <\/p>\n
Johannes Neumann claimed the men's 50 breast crown in 28.09, off his 19th-ranked season best of 27.98 from March. Erik Steinhagen finished second in 28.12 after posting a 27.84 to lead preliminary qualifying and move to 14th in the world rankings. Maximilian Kraus finished third in 28.51. <\/p>\n
Alexandra Wenk topped the women's 50 fly in 26.87, a German age group record, while Sina Sutter (27.02) and Paulina Schmiedel (27.12) earned second and third.
