Biomechanics (i.e., technique) has been the primary focus, but there have also been presentations on physiology, medicine, instrumentation, skill learning, anthropometry, evaluation, education, coaching and training. In addition to oral and poster presentations, the conference usually includes poolside demonstrations of the latest technology.<\/p>\n<p>In a message from the congress president (<strong>Toshiaki Goya<\/strong>), he explained that the purpose of BMS was to \u201cpromote the spread of scientific knowledge in swimming and aquatic sports, and contribute to the development of research.\u201d While most of the studies have addressed research topics, the information from a number of studies was also applied by coaches and swimmers.<\/p>\n<p><em>Dr. Rod Havriluk is a sports scientist and consultant who specializes in swimming technique instruction and analysis.
