SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 10. IF 15 school records and an appearance at the NCAA Championships was not a big enough splash for the University of Utah swimming & diving team's first year in the Pac-12, the fastest swimming conference in the country, the second year looks to be even more promising as head coach Greg Winslow and his staff announce the commitments of 27 new Utes. Seventeen men and 10 women will enroll at Utah next fall and compete for the Utes during the 2012-13 season.<\/p>\n
“This is a deep and talented group of athletes from all around the world,” Winslow said. “I am excited to have every one of these athletes join the Utah family.”<\/p>\n
When asked how the Utes were able to sign such a great class, Winslow pointed to his staff.<\/p>\n
“The advantage of recruiting into the Pac-12 and the addition of two new assistant coaches, Lisa Pursley and Jonas Persson, have allowed us to sign this record number of athletes,” Winslow said. “I am proud of the relentless work our staff did recruiting this year.”<\/p>\n
The class is highlighted by international athletes that hail from Sweden, Hungary, Brazil, England, Canada and Finland. The U.S. athletes will come to Utah from nine different states. The diverse group will join the Utes that return all but six athletes from their record-breaking debut season in the Pac-12. <\/p>\n
