THE German Olympic Trials begin tomorrow morning in Berlin and run through Monday, and we&#039;re likely to see some fast swims from the country&#039;s top swimmers as they officially put their names on the Olympic roster. Britta Steffen is the reigning Olympic champion in the 50 and 100 freestyles and will be looking to defend those titles. Paul Biedermann will likely be in the hunt in the Olympic finals of the 200 and 400 freestyles, and all eyes will be on him this week as the world record holder in those events. We&#039;ll bring you recaps from all the finals in Berlin on swimmingworld.com.<\/p>\n<p>Alexander Dale Oen&#039;s brother Robin announced today the creation of a memorial fund that will give children &#8220;the experiences of their lifetimes.&#8221; The specifics of what the fund will do wasn&#039;t made available in today&#039;s announcement, but the fund will be set up in Alexander&#039;s honor, and is starting a few months earlier than scheduled. Alexander and Robin had planned to start the fund after the London Olympics.<\/p>\n<p>Olympic and NCAA legend John Naber will be the only swimmer inducted into this year&#039;s Capitol One Academic All-America Hall of Fame. Naber won four golds and a silver at the 1976 Olympics, and won 10 individual NCAA titles as a student-athlete at the University of Southern California. The induction ceremony will take place on June 25 in St. Louis. Naber will join such swimming luminaries as Tracy Caulkins, Gary Hall Sr. and Nancy Hogshead in the hall of fame.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, May 9.
