Day 5 of the Commonwealth Games began with a fast prelims session, but while the big names of the games dominated on Day 4, the Day 5 finals could be set up for some fresh faces on the podium.<\/p>\n

Emily Seebohm<\/strong> and Benjamin Proud <\/strong>did take top seeds, giving the finals enough star power at the top.<\/p>\n

DAY 5 PRELIMS RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Women\u2019s 50 back
\n\u2022 Men\u2019s 50 free
\n\u2022 Women\u2019s SB9 100 breast
\n\u2022 Men\u2019s S7 50 free
\n\u2022 Women\u2019s 200 fly<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 200 back<\/h3>\n

South Africa\u2019s Martin Binedell<\/strong> got the prelims off to a fast start by taking the top time in the men\u2019s 200 back, finishing in 1:57.92.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Mitch Larkin<\/strong> (1:57.99) and Bradley Woodward<\/strong> (1:58.41) followed with the second and third seeds, respectively.<\/p>\n

England\u2019s Luke Greenback<\/strong> took the fourth seed (1:58.54), followed by Australia\u2019s Josh Beaver<\/strong> (1:58.73), Canada\u2019s Markus Thormeyer<\/strong> (1:59.68), Xavier Castelli<\/strong> (2:00.08) of Wales and Scotland\u2019s Craig McNally<\/strong> (2:00.26).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 50 back<\/h3>\n

Emily Seebohm<\/strong> took the top qualifying time in the prelims of the women\u2019s 50 back and will have the first seed in the semifinals. The Australian star finished in 27.63.<\/p>\n

Georgia Davies<\/strong> of Wales took the second seed (27.91), followed by Canada\u2019s Kylie Masse<\/strong> (27.99), Scotland\u2019s Kathleen Dawson<\/strong> (28.17) and Cassie Wild<\/strong> (28.31). Rounding out the top eight seeds were Australia\u2019s Holly<\/strong> Barratt<\/strong> (28.49) and Minna Atherton<\/strong> (28.50) as well as Canada\u2019s Alexia Zevnik<\/strong> (28.875).<\/p>\n

Lucy Hope<\/strong> of Scotland leads the 9-16 qualifiers for the semifinals with a 28.77.<\/p>\n

Men\u2019s 50 free<\/h3>\n

England\u2019s Benjamin Proud<\/strong> broke the first Commonwealth Games record of the day by taking the top seed in the 50 free in 21.45. He broke his own mark of 21.76 from 2014.<\/p>\n

South Africa\u2019s Bradley Tand<\/strong>y took the second seed (21.78), followed by Australia\u2019s Cameron McEvoy<\/strong> (22.06), Australia\u2019s James Roberts<\/strong> (22.11), England\u2019s Thomas Fannon<\/strong> (22.12), Australia\u2019s James Magnussen<\/strong> (22.23), England\u2019s David Cumberlidge<\/strong> (22.25) and New Zealand\u2019s Daniel Hunter<\/strong> (22.32).<\/p>\n

New Zealand\u2019s Sophie Pascoe<\/strong> took the top seed in the Women\u2019s SB9 100 breast prelims, finishing in 1:17.92.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Paige Leonhardt<\/strong> (1:19.87) was second, followed by Australia\u2019s Madeleine Scott<\/strong> (1:21.31), Canada\u2019s Sarah Girard<\/strong> (1:25.07), Canada\u2019s Katarina Roxon<\/strong> (1:25.75), Australia\u2019s Jasmine Greenwood<\/strong> (1:26.61) and Scotland\u2019s Toni Shaw<\/strong> (1:29.94).<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Matthew Levy<\/strong> took the top seed in the Men\u2019s S7 50 free, finishing in 28.68.<\/p>\n

South Africa\u2019s Christian Sadie<\/strong> was second (29.54), followed by Singapore\u2019s Wei Soong Toh<\/strong> (20.35), Canada\u2019s Jean-Michel Lavalliere<\/strong> (20.37), Australia\u2019s Rohan Bright<\/strong> (30.86) and Australia\u2019s Matthew Haanappel<\/strong> (30.92).<\/p>\n

Women\u2019s 200 fly<\/h3>\n

Alys Thomas<\/strong> of Wales cruised to the top seed in the women\u2019s 200 fly prelims to close out the morning session on the Gold Coast. She finished in 2:07.72.<\/p>\n

Australia\u2019s Laura Taylor<\/strong> took the second seed (2:08.43), followed by Canada\u2019s Mabel Zavaros<\/strong> (2:08.71), Australia\u2019s Emma McKeon<\/strong> (2:09.55), Australia\u2019s Brianna Throssell<\/strong> (2:09.93), Isle of Man\u2019s Charlotte Atkinson<\/strong> (2:09.95), England\u2019s Laura Stephens<\/strong> (2:11.18) and England\u2019s Emily Large<\/strong> (2:11.35).<\/p>\n
