Canadian teammate <strong>Hilary Caldwell<\/strong> took the second see tat 2:10.27.<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <strong>Kaylee McKeown<\/strong> took the third seed in 2:10.45, followed by England\u2019s <strong>Jessica Fullalove<\/strong> (2:11.51), Australia\u2019s <strong>Emily Seebohm<\/strong> (2:11.68), England\u2019s <strong>Elizabeth Simmonds<\/strong> (2:12.12), Canada\u2019s <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong> (2:12.62) and Australia\u2019s <strong>Haley Baker<\/strong> (2:12.71).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 breast<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Adam Peaty<\/strong> put himself in good position to continue his dominance in the breaststroke. The British champion finished the 50 breast in 26.98 to earn the top qualifying spot for the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>South Africa\u2019s <strong>Cameron van der Burgh<\/strong> was second in 27.01, followed by Australia\u2019s Jake Packard (27.42) and <strong>James McKechnie<\/strong> (27.53).<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s <strong>James Wilby<\/strong> (27.58), Scotland\u2019s <strong>Euan Inglis<\/strong> (27.84), South Africa\u2019s <strong>Michael Houlie<\/strong> (27.92) and Scotland\u2019s <strong>Craig Benson<\/strong> (28.06) round out the top eight.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s <strong>Mark Campbell<\/strong> and Australia\u2019s <strong>Liam Hunter<\/strong> tied for the ninth seed at 28.10, followed by South Africa\u2019s <strong>Bradley Tandy<\/strong> (28.17), Canada\u2019s <strong>Elijah Wall<\/strong> (28.29), Mozambique\u2019s <strong>Ludovico Corsini<\/strong> (28.56), Northern Ireland\u2019s <strong>Jamie Graham<\/strong> (28.80), <strong>Izaak Bastian<\/strong> (29.39) of the Bahamas and Fiji\u2019s Epeli\u2019s <strong>Rabua Herbert<\/strong> (29.61), who rounded out the top 16.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 free<\/h3>\n<p>A couple of veteran Australians and a couple of Canadian teenagers started what looks to be pretty epic battle in the 100 free.<\/p>\n<p>Australian\u2019s <strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong> took the top seed in the prelims in 54.05, earning the top spot for the semifinals.<\/p>\n<p>On her heels was Canada\u2019s <strong>Taylor Ruck<\/strong>, who finished in 54.79.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bronte Campbell<\/strong> took the third spot in 54.81, followed closely by Canada\u2019s <strong>Penny Oleksiak<\/strong> (54.88) and Canada\u2019s <strong>Kayla Sanchez<\/strong> (54.97).<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s<strong> Shayna Jack<\/strong> took the sixth seed (55.00), followed by England\u2019s <strong>Freya Anderson<\/strong> (55.12) and <strong>Anna Hopkin<\/strong> (55.21).<\/p>\n<p>Also finishing in the top 16 to make the semifinals were: South Africa\u2019s <strong>Erin Gallagher<\/strong> (55.36), Scotland\u2019s<strong> Lucy Hope<\/strong> (55.56), England\u2019s <strong>Jessica Jackson<\/strong> (55.85), South Africa\u2019s <strong>Emma Chelius<\/strong> (56.04), New Zealand\u2019s <strong>Carina Doyle<\/strong> (56.27), <strong>Laticia Transom<\/strong> (56.32), <strong>Georgia Marris<\/strong> (56.98) and Singapore\u2019s <strong>Ting Wen Quah<\/strong> (57.46).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>England\u2019s <strong>Siobhan O\u2019Connor<\/strong> took the top seed in the 200 IM prelims with a 2:11.31.<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s <strong>Erika Seltereich-Hodgson<\/strong> was second in 2:12.24, followed by Scotland\u2019s <strong>Hannah Miley<\/strong> (2:12.50), England\u2019s <strong>Abbie Wood<\/strong> (2:12.85), Canada\u2019s <strong>Sarah<\/strong> <strong>Darcel<\/strong> (2:12.95), England\u2019s <strong>Aimee Willmott<\/strong> (2:13.38), Australia\u2019s <strong>Meg Bailey<\/strong> (2:13.61) and <strong>Blair Evans<\/strong> (2:13.63).<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 fly<\/h3>\n<p>England\u2019s <strong>James Guy<\/strong> surged to the top seed in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 53.16 to hold off Scotland\u2019s<strong> Sean Campsie<\/strong> (53.31).<\/p>\n<p>Canada\u2019s J<strong>osiah Binnema<\/strong> (53.49) took the third seed (53.49), followed by Australia\u2019s<strong> David Morgan<\/strong> (53.49), South Africa\u2019s<strong> Chad le Clos<\/strong> (54.67), England\u2019s<strong> Jacob Peters<\/strong> (53.72), Canada\u2019s <strong>Mackenzie Darragh<\/strong> (53.81) and Australia\u2019s <strong>Grant Irvine<\/strong> (53.89).<\/p>\n<p>Also qualifying for the semifinals were: India\u2019s <strong>Sajan Prakash<\/strong> (54.11), Wales\u2019<strong> Calum Jarvis<\/strong> (54.26), Malaysia\u2019s<strong> Jie Chan<\/strong> (54.33), Zambia\u2019s <strong>Ralph Govieia<\/strong> (54.58), Ghana\u2019s <strong>Abeku Jackson<\/strong> (54.79), South Africa\u2019s <strong>Ryan Coetzee<\/strong> (55.03), <strong>Eben Vorster<\/strong> (55.11) and Northern Ireland\u2019s<strong> James Brown<\/strong> (55.14).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 100 breast<\/h3>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <strong>Georgia Bohl<\/strong> took the top seed in the 100 breast, finishing in 1:07.40, just ahead of South Africa\u2019s <strong>Tatjana Schoenmaker<\/strong> (1:07.69) during prelims.<\/p>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <strong>Leisten Pickett<\/strong> (1:07.72), Canada\u2019s <strong>Kierra Smith<\/strong> (1:07.81) and <strong>Faith Knelson<\/strong> (1:08.50) followed. Australia\u2019s <strong>Jessica Hansen<\/strong> was sixth (1:08.81), followed by Canada\u2019s<strong> Rachel Nichol<\/strong> (1:08.87) and England\u2019s<strong> Sara Vasey<\/strong> (1:08.95).<\/p>\n<p>Also qualifying for the semifinals were: <strong>Chloe Tutton<\/strong> (1:09.06) of Wales, England\u2019s <strong>Molly Henshaw<\/strong> (1:09.40), South Africa\u2019s <strong>Kaylene Corbett<\/strong> (1:09.40), Scotland\u2019s <strong>Corrie Scott<\/strong> (1:09.51), Isle of Man\u2019s<strong> Laura Kinley<\/strong> (1:09.71), England\u2019s <strong>Jocelyn Ulyett<\/strong> (1:09.74), Jamaica\u2019s <strong>Alia Atkinson<\/strong> (1:09.83) and South Africa\u2019s <strong>Emily<\/strong> <strong>Visage<\/strong> (1:10.65).<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 800 free<\/h3>\n<p>Australia\u2019s <strong>Jessica Ashwood<\/strong> concluded the preliminaries by taking the top seed in the 800 free in 8:29.30, ahead of compatriot <strong>Ariarne Titmus<\/strong> (8:32.78).<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s <strong>Camilla Hattersley<\/strong> took the third seed in 8:35.62, ahead of <strong>Jazz Carlin<\/strong> of Wales (8:36.52), England\u2019s <strong>Holly Hibbott<\/strong> (8:39.57), Australia\u2019s<strong> Kia Melverton<\/strong> (8:42.01), <strong>Ellena Jones<\/strong> of Wales (8:43.89) and South Africa\u2019s <strong>Kate Beavon<\/strong> (8:49.16).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After three full days of action in Australia&#8217;s Gold Coast, fast swimming was on display at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
