Princeton's Orr Wins 200th <\/p>\n
PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 16. PRINCETON University's head coach C. Rob Orr won his 200th and 201st dual meets this evening as the Tigers opened his 23rd season with victories over the University of Pennsylvania and Cornell University. <\/p>\n
"I'm very fortunate that the longevity factor has allowed me to do it," Orr stated, crediting hard
\nworking teams and strong support from the University and alumni with helping him achieve the milestone. <\/p>\n
However, for a coach's record to be 201-27 (.882) he has to have consistently put forth superior effort. Through constant dedication, strong recruiting efforts, and a remarkable ability to keep his swimmers
\nmotivated, focused, and happy, Orr has produced winning teams every year at Princeton. The winningest coach in school history, Orr has led Princeton to six Eastern Intercollegiate Swimming League meet
\nchampionships, 13 dual-meet championships, 16 Ivy League\/EISL regular season championships, and eight undefeated seasons. <\/p>\n
Orr is one of the most decorated and accomplished swim coaches in American collegiate swimming. He has been the EISL Coach of the Year six times. In 1990 he received the Master Coach Award from the College
\nSwimming Coaches Association for his contributions to collegiate swimming. In 1991, Orr served as head coach at the Olympic Festival and was the head women's coach for the 1993 U.S. National Junior Team. He
\nhas also served on the NCAA Swimming and Diving Committee, currently holding a post on the rules committee. <\/p>\n
But in his typical modest fashion, Orr shied away from the personal attention of his latest accomplishment, preferring to dwell on his team's strong performance in his most recent double-dual meet. <\/p>\n
The Tigers opened their season in convincing fashion, storming Sheerr pool to defeat host Penn 177-66 and Cornell 172-71. Junior Jesse Gage led the Tigers, winning the 50 free (21.01) and the 100 free (45.95), and swimming a strong butterfly leg for the victorious
\n400 medley relay (3:23.06 ). <\/p>\n
Junior Carl Hessler won the 200 free (1:41.75) and the 500 free (4:36.56). Sophomore Juan Pablo Valdivieso
\nalso won two events for the Tigers, the 1000 free (9:29.10) and the 200 fly (1:50.98). <\/p>\n
Other Princeton winners included: Steve Fleming (200 back), Garth Fealey (200 breast), Chester Yarbrough (200 IM), Kent Demond (3m springboard). <\/p>\n
Princeton won 11 of the 13 events en route to defeating Penn for the 12th consecutive time and Cornell for the 17th straight year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
