{"id":304381,"date":"2018-04-06T17:00:21","date_gmt":"2018-04-07T00:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=304381"},"modified":"2018-04-06T19:26:36","modified_gmt":"2018-04-07T02:26:36","slug":"2018-commonwealth-games-day-three-prelims-live-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/2018-commonwealth-games-day-three-prelims-live-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Men Under 49 Seconds in 100 Free on Day Three Prelims of 2018 Commonwealth Games"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After two full days of action in Australia&#8217;s Gold Coast, we are slated for yet another preliminary session of the 2018 Commonwealth Games with fast swimming expected all over the pool.<\/p>\n<p>The usual suspects are on the blocks again with the likes of RSA&#8217;s <strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong>, Australia&#8217;s spring-studs\u00a0<strong>Cate Campbell <\/strong>and <strong>Kyle Chalmers<\/strong>\u00a0among those making waves as we move forward through the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s events include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 200 Fly<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 200 Breast<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s SB8 100 Breast<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s SM 200 IM<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 50 Back<\/li>\n<li>Women&#8217;s 50 Fly<\/li>\n<li>Men&#8217;s 100 Free<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Check below for event-by-event coverage.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/results\/2018-commonwealth-games-day-three-prelims-results-day-3\/international-elite\/2018\/April\/4?\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FULL RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 200 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>Australian duo of <strong>David Morgan<\/strong> (1:57.42) and <strong>Grant Irvine<\/strong> (1:57.91) took 1-2 in heat one, which earned them the second and fifth spots, respectively, going into tonight while New Zealand&#8217;s <strong>Lewis Clareburt<\/strong> touched third in the heat with his 1:58.32.<\/p>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Mackenzie Darragh<\/strong> (1:56.96) touched first in heat two to earn himself the lane four position going into tonight&#8217;s finals while Scotland&#8217;s <strong>Duncan Scott<\/strong> touched second in that heat with his 1:57.64, putting him third before the final.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, South Africa&#8217;s <strong>Chad le Clos<\/strong> swam a 1:57.89 for third in heat two, which currently ranks him fourth going into the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 200 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>Canada&#8217;s <strong>Kierra Smith<\/strong> took first in heat one with her 2:25.33 while Australia&#8217;s <strong>Tessa<\/strong> <strong>Wallace<\/strong> touched second in a 2:26.86.<\/p>\n<p>Heat two saw a tight race between Australia&#8217;s <strong>Taylor McKeown<\/strong> (2:25.04) and Wales&#8217; <strong>Chloe Tutton<\/strong> (2:25.08) who took 1-2 in the heat and currently sit second and third, respectively, leading into tonight.<\/p>\n<p>In heat three South Africa&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Tatjana Schoenmaker<\/strong> produced a 2:23.57 to earn the number one seed going into tonight and touch ahead of England&#8217;s <strong>Molly Renshaw<\/strong> who swam a 2:25.55, which puts her as the fifth for the final.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s SB8 100 Breast<\/h3>\n<p>Australia&#8217;s trio of <strong>Timothy Disken<\/strong> (1:13.87), <strong>Timothy Hodge<\/strong> (1:17.02) and <strong>Blake<\/strong> <strong>Cochrane<\/strong> (1:19.81) took the top three spots going into the final while New Zealand&#8217;s duo of <strong>Jesse Reynolds<\/strong> (1:21.82) and <strong>Celyn Edwards<\/strong> (1:25.06) posted the fourth and fifth fastest times.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s SM 200 IM<\/h3>\n<p>Heat one featured a 2:32.90 from Canada&#8217;s <strong>Aurelie Rivard<\/strong> who touched first in the heat ahead of Australia&#8217;s <strong>Paige Leonhardt<\/strong> who posted a 2:34.39. Rivard currently sits second going into the final.<\/p>\n<p>New Zealand&#8217;s <strong>Sophie Pascoe<\/strong> took ownership of lane four tonight with her 2:27.26 from heat two while <strong>Katherine Downie<\/strong> was behind with her 2:35.49, which earned her the fourth seed.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 50 Back<\/h3>\n<p>Australia set themselves up for an excellent medal run by taking the top three spots heading into the semi-final with their trio of <strong>Zac Incerti<\/strong> (25.05), <strong>Mitch Larkin<\/strong> (25.32) and <strong>Benjamin Treffers<\/strong>\u00a0(25.52) producing a 1-2-3 finish after the heats.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the first semi-final will be Scotland&#8217;s <strong>Craig McNally<\/strong> by virtue of his 26.11 while <strong>Dillon<\/strong> <strong>Gooding<\/strong> (29.96) out of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines will round out the second semi-final.<\/p>\n<h3>Women&#8217;s 50 Fly<\/h3>\n<p>The Australian women followed the men&#8217;s momentum by putting three of fastest swimmers in the semi-final with <strong>Madeline Groves<\/strong> (25.81) and <strong>Cate Campbell<\/strong> (25.83) leading the way while <strong>Holly Barratt<\/strong> earned fourth heading into tonight with her 26.14.<\/p>\n<p>Taking eighth was South Africa&#8217;s <strong>Erin Gallagher<\/strong> who produced a 27.05.<\/p>\n<h3>Men&#8217;s 100 Free<\/h3>\n<p>Australia advanced another bunch of swimmers by qualifying all three of their swimmers into the semi-finals. <strong>Kyle Chalmers<\/strong> led the Aussie sprint squad with a 48.81 to earn the top spot heading into the semi&#8217;s while <strong>Jack Cartwright<\/strong> (48.85) and <strong>Cameron McEvoy<\/strong> (49.20) followed in second and eighth, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Trinidad&#8217;s <strong>Dylan Carter<\/strong> swam a 48.96 to earn third going into the semi, ahead of Scotland&#8217;s <strong>Duncan Scott<\/strong> who posted the fourth sub-49 time in a 48.99.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After two full days of action in Australia&#8217;s Gold Coast, we are slated for yet another preliminary session of the 2018 Commonwealth Games with fast swimming expected all over the<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4285,"featured_media":304389,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_monsterinsights_skip_tracking":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_active":false,"_monsterinsights_sitenote_note":"","_monsterinsights_sitenote_category":0,"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false,"footnotes":"","jetpack_publicize_message":"","jetpack_publicize_feature_enabled":true,"jetpack_social_post_already_shared":false,"jetpack_social_options":{"image_generator_settings":{"template":"dois","enabled":false},"version":2}},"categories":[3,10],"tags":[58424],"class_list":["post-304381","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-featured","category-world","tag-2018-commonwealth-games"],"jetpack_publicize_connections":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO Premium plugin v24.3 (Yoast SEO v24.3) -
