TWO NCAA Division III coaches just announced their retirements. Legendary college coach Jim Steen announced his retirement this morning after 37 years at Kenyon College. Steen led the men&#039;s and women&#039;s teams to a combined 50 Division III NCAA titles and won coach of the year honors 14 times. He had been coaching only the men&#039;s team since 2010, when Jessen Book, who swam at Kenyon, started coaching the women. Book will take over as head coach of both teams. Steen will stay on to help with the transition and work with other programs, including the swim camps.<\/p>\n<p>Bob Sorenson is leaving his post at New York University after 32 years, but will stay involved as manager of the school&#039;s pool and swimming instructor. Sorenson guided 38 swimmers to the Division III NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>Jessicah Schipper had an emergency operation Sunday evening after complaining of extreme abdominal pain, according to the Australian newspaper the Herald Sun. The doctors initially thought she needed to have her appendix removed, but discovered that she had a ruptured cyst on one of her ovaries. Schipper is doing well now, and is out of the water for about a week. She was scheduled to fly to the United States later this month to compete in the Santa Clara Grand Prix, but there&#039;s no official word if that trip will still happen.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX, Arizona, May 2.
