On night three of the 2018 YMCA Short Course National Championship one more National record fell. Last night’s 4×100 freestyle relay champions repeated in the night’s last event, the 4×50 freestyle relay.<\/p>\n

Women’s 100 Backstroke<\/h3>\n

Bath Area’s\u00a0Olivia Harper\u00a0<\/strong>was third at the halfway point and surged to victory, touching in 53.71 in the night’s first event. The 16 year old who was runner up in last night’s 200 back\u00a0was followed by Blue Ash’s\u00a0Emma Shuppert\u00a0<\/strong>in 53.85. Joining Harper in the top three was another Mainer, Kennebec’s\u00a0Gabby Low<\/strong>, who used her powerful underwaters to race to a 53.87.<\/p>\n

Upper Main Line’s\u00a0Brendan Burns\u00a0<\/strong>continued his impressive week. The 16 year old flipped at the halfway point in 22.37, six tenths under the National record pace of 23.00. Burns powered home in 23.87 to touch in a 46.24, eight tenths faster than\u00a0Austin Katz<\/strong>‘ National Record of 47.06.<\/p>\n
Finishing second was\u00a0Justin Fleagle\u00a0<\/strong>of Auglaize Mercer\u00a0with a 48.80. Spartanburg’s\u00a0Michael Juengel\u00a0<\/strong>placed third (49.16).<\/p>\n

Women’s 400 IM<\/h3>\n
Leah Braswell\u00a0<\/strong>of York was fourth after the butterfly. Springfield’s\u00a0Kaitlyn Wheeler\u00a0<\/strong>led at the 100 mark. Braswell, who will head to the University of Florida<\/a> in the fall, was strong through backstroke to pull ahead of the field, and held onto that spot through the end of the race, touching in 4:08.98.<\/p>\n
Sarasota’s\u00a0Emma Weyant\u00a0<\/strong>had the quickest breaststroke leg in the final heat to touch second with a 4:11.65. Wheeler wound up third with a 4:14.50.<\/p>\n

After turning in seventh at the halfway mark, Somerset Valley’\u00a0Matt Fallon\u00a0<\/strong>finished third. He blasted a 24.87 on the final 50 yards to stop the clock in 3:52.46.<\/p>\n

Men’s 200 Freestyle<\/h3>\n
Rapid Area’s\u00a0Henry Schutte\u00a0<\/strong>went out fast, flipping at the 100 in 46.39, nearly a second ahead of the next best swimmer. The field closed in on the third 50, and knocked his lead down to a mere tenth. Over the final 50 yards Schutte fought to hung on, touching second in 1:38.76. Fanwood Scotch’s\u00a0Josh Cohen\u00a0<\/strong>posted a 25.30 over the final 50 yards to finish first in 1:38.10. Just behind Schutte was Boise’s\u00a0Thomas Roark\u00a0<\/strong>with a 1:38.80.<\/p>\n

The Westport\/Weston women took their second relay title in as many days.\u00a0Marissa Healy<\/strong>,\u00a0Sarah Grinalds\u00a0<\/strong>(22.53),\u00a0Esme Hunter<\/strong>,\u00a0and\u00a0Simona Visinski\u00a0<\/strong>got to the wall in 1:32.78. Men’s 4×50 Freestyle Relay<\/h3>\n
After winning the 4×100 freestyle relay last night\u00a0Jack Alexy<\/strong>,\u00a0Roo Fenton<\/strong>,\u00a0Jonathan\u00a0<\/strong>Hua\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Ryan Carkhuff\u00a0<\/strong>took the 4×50 freestyle relay for 1:22.19.<\/p>\n
Burns led off in a 20.09 for Upper Main Line.\u00a0Oliver Brown<\/strong>,\u00a0Owen Neuman<\/strong>, and\u00a0Ben Doyle\u00a0<\/strong>followed as the team earned runner up honors with a 1:22.70.<\/p>\n
Piedmont placed third in 1:23.36 with the quartet of\u00a0August Lamb<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>Parker DeVillier<\/strong>,\u00a0Noah Hargrove<\/strong>, and\u00a0Noah Holstege<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
