After competing for the University of North Carolina, Moffitt <a href=\"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/north-carolina-grad-hellen-moffitt-now-training-with-team-elite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moved her training to Team Elite<\/a> in Charotte, N.C. in September of 2017.<\/p>\n<p>According to Fike, this is where Moffitt will continue to train through 2020. In addition to training and joining the Fike Team, she is also starting to develop her post-swimming career in supply chain management for Foodbuy USA.<\/p>\n<p>Moffitt explained how she became an ambassador for the company:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<blockquote>\n<div><span style=\"color: #008000;\">&#8220;I used The Brick throughout college and experienced firsthand\u00a0the positive impact it had on\u00a0my training,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/fikeswim.com\/pages\/hellen-moffitt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">she said<\/a>. &#8220;It\u2019s an innovative tool created by an innovative company that truly understands\u00a0swimmers\u2019 needs. Moffitt will compete at the 2018 Phillips 66 Nationals July 25-29 in Irvine, Ca.<\/p>\n<h2>Q&amp;A with Hellen Moffitt<\/h2>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/fikeswim.com\/pages\/hellen-moffitt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Provided by Fike Swim<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Q: Who is your coach and which team do you compete for?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;I am currently swimming for Team Elite for David Marsh and Bob Groseth.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>Q: How did you get into swimming?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A:\u00a0&#8220;One of my neighbors who I really looked up to was on our community swim team. My mom and I would walk down to the pool every Monday night to watch her swim in the weekly swim meets. I thought it looked like fun, and decided I wanted to join the swim team. I was only 4 and you had to be able to swim one lap in order to join the Little Dolphins, so that summer I hopped in the pool and swam a full lap of backstroke. The following summer I joined the team and have been in love with swimming ever since!&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>Q: What are the highlights of your career so far?\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A:\u00a0&#8220;One of the most memorable moments of my career was competing in the finals of the Olympic trials in 2016.\u00a0 It had been a goal of mine for a while to final at trials and the atmosphere was just incredible.\u00a0 I could hear the crowd screaming every time I took a breath which was just an amazing feeling.&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Q: What is your favorite event?\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;50 fly- because it&#8217;s fun!&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Q: How many yards per week do you train?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;A high volume week for me would be between 6,000-6,500 per workout so around 55,000 yards per week and a low volume week would be between 5,000-5,500 yards per workout or 47,000 yards per week.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Q: What does an average set look like?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>A: &#8220;This was one of my favorite sets we used to do at UNC. It focuses on back half of 100 speed which is something I always like to work on. The interval allows for enough rest to recover while still forcing you to manufacture speed.The set is:<\/p>\n<p>40x50s fly (or primary stroke) on :50 long course<\/p>\n<p>Odds smooth, evens second 50 of 100 goal pace<\/p>\n<p>I would usually hold 29.9\/30.0 for the first 10 and 29.5 for the second 10.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Q: What are your 2018 competition goals?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A:\u00a0&#8220;My goal is to qualify for Pan Pacific championships and win a medal, and then qualify for 2019 Worlds.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Q: What are your practice goals to help you reach your race goals?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;My goal is to work on details like head position, staying low on turns, engaging my core, and extending my catch everyday during practice.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Q: Favorite dryland exercise?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;I am obsessed with the ab wheel. I love how it strengthens your core and helps with connectivity and I can really feel the effects in my stroke. I usually do 4 sets of 10-15 reps.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Q:\u00a0Favorite post-workout meal?<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;I love breakfast food, so my favorite post workout meal is a scramble with eggs, turkey bacon, avocado, and spinach over diced sweet potatoes topped with goat cheese. I will usually pair this with a protein smoothie and coffee.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><strong>Q:\u00a0Swimmer idol and why<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;Ashley Twitchell. She trained with us at UNC my senior year and I loved watching her fearlessly crush every distance set she was given, even when she was doing them by herself.\u00a0 I had the privilege of rooming with Ashley at Short Course Worlds and I saw firsthand how humble and grounded she is.\u00a0 Ashley handles disappointments with grace and uses setbacks as motivation.\u00a0 She has shown me that everyone\u2019s path to success is different and has inspired me to follow my dreams.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>Q: Non-swimmer idol and why<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;My mom.\u00a0 She has supported me and believed in me every step of the way &#8211; from every late night phone call to never missing one of my meets.\u00a0 She is the strongest and hardest working person I know and I would be lucky to grow up to be half the woman she is.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>Q: Something most people don&#8217;t knnow about you<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>A: &#8220;In my elementary school yearbook all the 6<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0graders had to include a quote with their future aspirations.\u00a0 Mine were swim for UNC, become a professional swimmer, and open a small pastry shop.\u00a0 Two down one to go!&#8221;<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<h2>About Fike Swim<\/h2>\n<p>Fike Swim Products was born when founder\u00a0<strong>James Fike<\/strong>\u00a0put a\u00a0brick on top of a kickboard and transformed\u00a0just another legs-only kick set into a total body workout felt into the next day.
