And Horton came back, pulling aside the early leaders on the third 100 and moving into the lead with one lap to go.<\/p>\n<p>Horton pulled away down the stretch and came in at 3:43.76. That was well off his lifetime best of 3:41.55, swum on his way to Olympic gold in Rio, but it was plenty to take the win in Gold Coast. Horton&#8217;s gold was the first for Australia since\u00a0<strong>Ian Thorpe\u00a0<\/strong>won back-to-back Commonwealth titles in the event in 1998 and 2002.<\/p>\n<p>McLoughlin ended up touching out Guy for silver, 3:45.21 to 3:45.32. The bronze was the second straight at the Commonwealth Games for Guy &#8212; the 2014 bronze was his first international medal, before he became a World Champion &#8212; while McLoughlin earned his first-ever international medal<\/p>\n<p>Wales&#8217;\u00a0<strong>Daniel Jervis\u00a0<\/strong>finished fourth in 3:48.08, and two other men got under 3:50: Canada&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jeremy Bagshaw\u00a0<\/strong>(3:49.52) and Australia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>David McKeon<\/strong> (3:49.60).
