Vela is from Huntsville, Alabama where he swims for Huntsville Swim Association and is a senior at Huntsville High School.<\/p>\n<p>His top times are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>200 Fly 1:52.15<\/li>\n<li>100 Fly 50.42<\/li>\n<li>50 Fly 23.76<\/li>\n<li>100 Back 52.82<\/li>\n<li>100 Free 47.78<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Vela said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I am proud to announce my verbal commitment to Lehigh University. It has strong academics and athletics, combined with a welcoming team and coaches!&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>At this year&#8217;s Patriot League Championships Vela would have missed the B final in the 200 butterfly be a mere .05. His best time would have made him the team&#8217;s top finisher this year. Freshman\u00a0<strong>Max Goldenberg\u00a0<\/strong>(1:53.53) finished 19th, and will be a great training partner for Vela as the duo will overlap for three years. Lehigh had two seniors and one freshman (<strong>Teddy Smith<\/strong>&#8211; 49.56) in the 100 butterfly B final.
