TWO swim coaches and their alleged relationships with swimmers are making headlines this week. Last weekend, Knox High School coach Robert Corbin was arrested on charges of attempted seduction of a child after police discovered his communication with a female student on Facebook had evolved to content that was sexual in nature. No physical sexual contact took place, and during police questioning, Corbin did not deny that the contact took place.<\/p>\n<p>And yesterday, Indiana media reported that convicted child molester Chris Wheat&#039;s 10-year sentence is being reduced to just two years, as the former assistant swim coach is being released under the state&#039;s good-behavior laws. Among the things Wheat did to be considered for early release was earning a bachelor&#039;s degree and associate degree. Wheat was convicted in 2010 for two counts of sexual misconduct and one count of child solicitation.<\/p>\n<p>And in some good news about coaches, Adam Soldati and Dave Denniston are finalists in two categories for the U.S. Olympic Committee&#039;s coach of the year honors. Soldati is a finalist for the overall coach of the year award after guiding David Boudia to a silver medal on the platform at last summer&#039;s world championships. Denniston is in the running for Paralympic coach of the year in just his second year as coach. In 2011, almost all of Denniston&#039;s athletes excelled on the world stage, including at the Pan Pacific Para-Swimming championships.
