﻿{"id":302368,"date":"2018-03-24T15:24:51","date_gmt":"2018-03-24T22:24:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=302368"},"modified":"2018-03-24T20:23:27","modified_gmt":"2018-03-25T03:23:27","slug":"nc-state-takes-coveted-4x100-free-relay-title-texas-wins-14th-ncaa-team-title","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/nc-state-takes-coveted-4x100-free-relay-title-texas-wins-14th-ncaa-team-title\/","title":{"rendered":"NC State Takes Coveted 4&#215;100 Free Relay Title, Texas Wins 14th NCAA Team Title"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The race for the team title was tighter than expected and set us up for some intense match-ups throughout the final session of the 2018 Division I men&#8217;s NCAA championships.<\/p>\n<p>Leading into tonight, the Indiana Hoosiers were in front with 325 points with the Texas Longhorns (306) and the California Bears (291.5) following behind.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond team rankings, several NCAA and American records were snapped tonight as Florida&#8217;s <strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>\u00a0became the first man to dip under 40-seconds in tonight&#8217;s 100 free by swimming a 39.90.<\/p>\n<p>After Indiana&#8217;s <strong>Ian Finnerty<\/strong> set a new American record last night in the 100 breast, he followed that up with a win in the 200 distance, holding off a strong last 50 from Cal&#8217;s <strong>Andrew Seliskar<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Texas senior <strong>Joseph Schooling<\/strong> failed to advance to the finals this morning when he swam a 1:43.34 for 26th. This makes Dressel the first and only swimmer to break 40-seconds in a 100 free, making for the third major barrier the Gator senior has broken at this meet alone.<\/p>\n<p>Dressel was the only swimmer in the heat out in under 19-seconds for the first 50, where he split 18.96.<\/p>\n<p>Touching second in the A final was NC State&#8217;s<strong> Ryan Held\u00a0<\/strong>in a 41.08 which ties him with <strong>Nathan Adrian<\/strong> for fifth all-time.
