April 4.  The Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming is one of the most treasured goals in the marathon swimming world.  Today, <a href=\"http:\/\/openwaterpedia.com\/index.php?title=Jaime_Caballero\"target=\"_blank\">Jaime Caballero<\/a> of Spain became the first person to join the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.triplecrownofopenwaterswimming.com\"target=\"_blank\">Triple Crown of Open Water Swimming<\/a> this year with his very early season 9 hour 31 minute crossing of the Catalina Channel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I feel really proud,&#8221; said the 37-year-old Caballero after his fast swim in 53?F (11?C) water.  &#8220;<i>But at the same time I felt really tired. The winds made the waves terribly choppy.  I am really proud of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.triplecrownofopenwaterswimming.com\"target=\"_blank\">Triple Crown<\/a> accomplishment because I love swimming<\/i>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He took it out fast as he reached the halfway point around the 3-hour mark, but the waves slowed him down. However, the cold was not about to defeat him.  &#8220;<i>I was able to deal with the cold water because of my hard training in Spain near San Sebastian<\/i>.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>But he had a huge motivation to get this channel under his cap.  &#8220;<i>Our reason for doing this is for raising money to find cures for ALS (Asociaci?n Siempre Adelante). Many of us have lost family members to this disease.  We are very enthusiastic with what we are doing for ALS treatments<\/i>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Since 2011, Caballero has raised nearly $150,000 in his quest of major open water swims around the world.  Today&#039;s swim raised $100,000 alone as one of the largest and most successful charity swims in history.
