THE 2012 East Coast Swim Club Championship got off to a fast start tonight at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. Colorado women&#039;s 800 Freestyle relay team started the meet by breaking their own meet record set last year by finishing with an impressive time of 8:03.36. University of Florida out touched University of Missouri in the men&#039;s 800 Freestyle.<\/p>\n<p>In the first individual event of the meet, Nattie Nobles from Colorado and Will Walters both turned in record breaking performances in the 400 Individual Medley. Nattie finished with a time of 4:48.40 and Will finished with a time of 4:03.57. The most striking swim of the evening comes from Alan Maher of University of Texas &#8212; Austin, who shattered the old 200 backstroke record with a final time of 1:42.97. Aves Sehler from Metro State College of Denver took the women&#039;s 200 backstroke title with a time of 2:15.04.<\/p>\n<p>Kendall Watt from James Madison took home the women 200 Butterfly title with a time of 2:20.22, and Tiago Schulz from Florida took home the men&#039;s 200 Fly title with a final time of 1:56.53. In the closest race of the evening, Ellesse Spaeth from Colorado and Annie Bratcher went stroke for stroke for the entire 200 Breaststroke. Ellesse eventually out touched Annie and claim the 200 Breast title with a final time of 2:30.37, beating Annie by 7 hundredth of a second. The men&#039;s 200 breaststroke title was taken by Eric Rohrs from University of Florida, setting a new ECC record with a time of 2:06.49.<\/p>\n<p>Will Walters and Aves Sehler both took home their second gold medal in this year&#039;s Club National Championship in the 500 freestyle, Will did it in a new ECC meet record time of 4:36.83, while Aves finishes just shy of the meet record with at time 5:17.77. University of Florida men and Colorado women both took home their second relay gold in the 400 Medley Relay, both in record setting time. Florida finishes at 3:23.29, and Colorado finishes at 4:06.42.<\/p>\n<p>With some very strong swims in day one, the University of Colorado women has built up a sizable 114 point lead over second place University of Missouri. University of Florida men holds a slim 31 point lead over Colorado in the men&#039;s standing. 8 of the 14 events this evening resulted in new meet records.
