He swam a time of 18.11 in prelims, nine hundredths under his previous American and NCAA records of 18.20.<\/p>\n<p>Dressel qualified first by more than a half-second, with NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ryan Held\u00a0<\/strong>taking second in 18.69. Third went to Minnesota&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Bowen Becker\u00a0<\/strong>in 18.88. Three others broke 19 seconds: 200 free American record-setter\u00a0<strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong> (18.93), Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Pwerl Sendyk\u00a0<\/strong>(18.95) and Auburn&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Zach Apple\u00a0<\/strong>(18.97).<\/p>\n<p>Alabama&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Robert Howard\u00a0<\/strong>(19.00) and Cal&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ryan Hoffer\u00a0<\/strong>(19.04) also made the final.<\/p>\n<p>Notably, NC State relay hero\u00a0<strong>Justin Ress\u00a0<\/strong>was 10th in 19.09, just ahead of USC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Santo Condorelli\u00a0<\/strong>(19.10). The Hoosiers&#8217; team of\u00a0<strong>Gabriel Fantoni<\/strong> (45.48),\u00a0<strong>Ian Finnerty<\/strong> (50.47),\u00a0<strong>Vini Lanza\u00a0<\/strong>(44.97) and\u00a0<strong>Blake Pieroni<\/strong> (40.95) combined to swim a time of 3:01.87.<\/p>\n<p>NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Andreas Vazaios<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Daniel Graber<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Coleman Stewart\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Jacob Molacek\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 3:02.70, just ahead of the Cal team of\u00a0<strong>Daniel Carr<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Connor Hoppe<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Zheng Quah<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Justin Lynch<\/strong> (3:02.77).<\/p>\n<p>USC took fourth in 3:03.02, ahead of Louisville (3:03.68), Georgia (3:03.70) and Stanford (3:03.84). Florida took eighth in 3:04.06, with\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel\u00a0<\/strong>anchoring in 40.27.<\/p>\n<p>In a big stunner, Texas finished ninth in 3:04.56.
