The Hoosiers held the lead until the anchor, but NC State&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Justin Ress\u00a0<\/strong>put his team in front and gave them the first title of the meet.<\/p>\n<p>The team of\u00a0<strong>Andreas Vazaios\u00a0<\/strong>(1:31.32),\u00a0<strong>Ryan Held\u00a0<\/strong>(1:31.09),\u00a0<strong>Jacob Molacek<\/strong> (1:32.13) and Ress (1:30.77) finished in 6:05.31, crushing the previous NCAA and U.S. Open record of 6:06.53 set last year.<\/p>\n<p>Indiana&#8217;s quartet of Pieroni,\u00a0<strong>Mohamed Samy<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Vini Lanza\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Ian Finnerty\u00a0<\/strong>took second in 6:06.01, also under last year&#8217;s record.<\/p>\n<p>Third went to the Texas team of\u00a0<strong>Townley Haas<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jeff Newkirk<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jonathan Roberts\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Austin Katz <\/strong>in 6:07.59. Haas led off in 1:30.41, under his previous American and NCAA record of 1:30.41, but he was beaten handily by Pieroni. Texas&#8217; time was a new American record, breaking the mark of 6:08.61 another Longhorn foursome (that included Haas and Newkirk) set last year.<\/p>\n<p>Florida, which as expected swam without superstar\u00a0<strong>Caeleb Dressel<\/strong>, took fifth in 6:09.52. Georgia took fifth out of the first heat of the event, posting a time of 6:12.75.<\/p>\n<p>Cal, led off by\u00a0<strong>Andrew Seliskar\u00a0<\/strong>in 1:31.28, finished sixth in 6:13.38, followed by Louisville (6:13.49) and Stanford (6:14.75).<\/p>\n<p>Notably, Harvard finished 11th in 6:16.68, but sophomore\u00a0<strong>Dean Farris\u00a0<\/strong>sparkled with a 1:30.55 split on the second leg.
