The Stanford Cardinal broke the NCAA Record to start off Thursday night at the 2018 NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships with a 1:25.43 in the 200 free relay. They held off a formidable challenge from Cal who swam a 1:25.50 for second. Both teams were under the NCAA record that Cal set last year.<\/p>\n

Janet Hu\u00a0<\/strong>(21.65),\u00a0Simone Manuel\u00a0<\/strong>(20.89),\u00a0Lauren Pitzer\u00a0<\/strong>(21.62) and\u00a0Ally Howe\u00a0<\/strong>(21.27) swam for Stanford as they re-broke the American Record they set this morning at 1:25.68.<\/p>\n

Cal was second with\u00a0Maddie Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>(21.94),\u00a0Amy Bilquist\u00a0<\/strong>(21.08),\u00a0Katie McLaughlin\u00a0<\/strong>(21.47) and\u00a0Abbey Weitzeil\u00a0<\/strong>(21.01) swimming for the Golden Bears.<\/p>\n

Tennessee (1:27.10), Virginia (1:27.13), Louisville (1:27.19), Michigan (1:27.78), Ohio State (1:28.17) and Texas (1:28.41) also swam in the championship final.<\/p>\n

Stanford broke Cal’s three year winning streak in the event as they captured their first NCAA title in the 200 free relay since 2014. It is also their eighth title overall in the relay.<\/p>\n
