﻿{"id":300329,"date":"2018-03-14T15:34:59","date_gmt":"2018-03-14T22:34:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/?p=300329"},"modified":"2018-03-14T16:31:08","modified_gmt":"2018-03-14T23:31:08","slug":"katie-ledecky-pulls-away-for-stanford-win-in-4x200-free-relay-to-open-ncaas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.swimmingworldmagazine.com\/news\/katie-ledecky-pulls-away-for-stanford-win-in-4x200-free-relay-to-open-ncaas\/","title":{"rendered":"Katie Ledecky Pulls Away for Stanford Win in 4&#215;200 Free Relay to Open NCAAs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Stanford women pulled away to win the first title of the women&#8217;s NCAA championships, with\u00a0<strong>Katie Ledecky\u00a0<\/strong>anchoring the Cardinal to a win in the 4&#215;200 free relay.\u00a0<strong>Katie Drabot\u00a0<\/strong>(1:42.99)\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Ella Eastin<\/strong> (1:41.13)\u00a0had the Cardinal in contention before\u00a0<strong>Brooke Forde\u00a0<\/strong>(1:42.94)\u00a0opened up a lead and Ledecky (1:39.87) extended it.<\/p>\n<p>The Cardinal finished in 6:46.93, just one second off their American and NCAA record of 6:45.91 set last year.\u00a0<strong>Simone Manuel<\/strong> swam on that relay in 2017 but sat it out this time around.<\/p>\n<p>Michigan ended up finishing second in 6:50.03, with the Wolverines just edging out Cal, which settled for third in 6:50.83.\u00a0<strong>Catie DeLoof<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Siobhan Haughey<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Rose Bi<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Gabby DeLoof\u00a0<\/strong>swam for the Wolverines, with Haughey posting the fastest split of 1:40.49.<\/p>\n<p>Cal&#8217;s team consisted of\u00a0<strong>Robin Neumann<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kathleen Baker<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Katie McLaughlin<\/strong> and\u00a0<strong>Amy Bilquist<\/strong>. McLaughlin&#8217;s\u00a01:41.64 split on the third leg put the Bears into contention.<\/p>\n<p>Swimming out of the second of three heats, Tennessee took fourth in 6:52.12 after a sterling 1:42.39 opening leg from\u00a0<strong>Erika Brown<\/strong>. Texas was fifth in 6:53.42, with\u00a0<strong>Claire Adams\u00a0<\/strong>leading the way with a 1:41.71 split.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville finished sixth in 6:53.75, and as usual,\u00a0<strong>Mallory Comerford\u00a0<\/strong>starred for the Cardinals. She split 1:39.14, believed to be the quickest split in history.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the top eight teams were Virginia (6:54.60) and Minnesota (6:56.40).<\/p>\n<p>Four swimmers outside of the top eight teams posted sub-1:43 splits: Georgia&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Meaghan Raab\u00a0<\/strong>anchored in 1:42.95, Kentucky&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Asia Seidt\u00a0<\/strong>was 1:42.93, USC&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Louise Hansson\u00a0<\/strong>led off in 1:42.71, and Wisconsin&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Beata Nelson\u00a0<\/strong>put up a 1:42.58 anchor split.<\/p>\n<p>In the team race,
