Ruby Martin<\/strong>, swimming unattached,\u00a0won the women’s 400-meter freestyle by a large margin, touching in 4:19.27 to second-place Maggie Emary<\/strong>‘s time of 4:23.16. Emary’s second-place finish is her second of the meet already, as the Barrington Swim Club senior notched silver in the women’s 800-meter freestyle last night. Third place went to her teammate Bridget O’Leary<\/strong> in 4:25.30.<\/p>\nEmily Ecker<\/strong> of Portland Porpoise Swim Club and winner of the 800 last night, put up a fourth-place time of 4:26.86. Fifth place went to 13-year-old Scarlet Martin<\/strong>, also swimming unattached,\u00a0with her time of 4:28.37, a whopping 10-second drop from her entry\u00a0time.<\/p>\nMeghan Susil<\/strong>\u00a0of Eastern Iowa Swim Federation (4:29.19), Isabelle Pelka\u00a0<\/strong>of Patriot Aquatic Club\u00a0(4:29.43), and Carol-lena Breiter<\/strong>\u00a0of Phoenix Swimming (4:31.33) rounded out the top eight finishers in the competitive event.<\/p>\nMen’s 400 Freestyle<\/h3>\n
Chicago Wolfpack Aquatic Club’s Jacob Furlong<\/strong>\u00a0dominated the men’s event in a similar fashion, winning in over 6 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. His time of 4:01.24 was good for first place over 800 runner-up out of Fond Du Lac Swim Club\u00a0Christian Hedeen<\/strong>‘s time of 4:07.48. Dylan Moffatt<\/strong>\u00a0from Black Hawk Area Swim Team\u00a0was third in 4:10.52.<\/p>\nFourth place was snagged by Trever Brenner<\/strong> of Sioux Falls Swim Team with his time of 4:12.88, while his teammate Damon Venner<\/strong> was close behind in 4:13.55 for fifth.<\/p>\nPatriot Aquatic Club’s Nathan Gates<\/strong> touched in 4:15.40 for sixth, while Brimwin Peabody<\/strong> of Portland Porpoise Swim Club’s time of 4:16.06 was good for seventh. Blake Wilton<\/strong> of the Colorado Stars snuck into eighth with a\u00a04:16.68.<\/p>\nWomen’s 100 Backstroke<\/h3>\n
Maxine Parker<\/strong> of Cats Aquatic Team\u00a0had a huge prelims to finals drop to shoot up from third place, touching in 1:04.54 for the win. Second place went to Patriot’s\u00a0Ashley Carollo<\/strong> in 1:04.94, while third place was awarded to Malia Francis<\/strong>\u00a0of Woodson Y Northern with her time of 1:05.25. 12-year-old Elmbrook Swim Team ace\u00a0Margaret Wanezek<\/strong> was not far behind in 1:05.62 for fourth.<\/p>\nEmily Clements<\/strong>\u00a0of Phoenix Swimming touched in 1:06.67 for fifth, just ahead of sixth-place Isabel Veliz<\/strong>\u00a0of Chicago Wolfpack\u00a0in 1:06.75.<\/p>\nPatriot’s Sophia Goushchina<\/strong> (1:07.06) and Arabella Shepard<\/strong> (1:07.18) of USS Destroyer\u00a0completed the championship heat of swimmers.<\/p>\nMen’s 100 Backstroke<\/h3>\n
Bloomington Normal Swim Club’s\u00a0Brett Spires<\/strong> held off the competition in the men’s final heat of the 100 backstroke, sprinting to a quick 57.78 for the win. Second place went to Chicago Wolfpack’s\u00a0Jaden Olson<\/strong> in 58.62, while his teammate Tadzio Kurka<\/strong> also made it onto the podium with a 59.22. Colorado Stars’ Blake Wilton<\/strong> was the only other competitor under the 1:00 mark in 59.86 for fourth place.<\/p>\nLiam Bergerson<\/strong>\u00a0of Blackline Aquatics\u00a0was just over in 1:00.06 for fifth place, ahead of a tie for sixth place between Fond Du Lac Swim Club’s\u00a0Andrew Rodriguez<\/strong> and Bloomington Normal Swim Club’s\u00a0Andy Ritsema<\/strong> in 1:00.31. The women’s 100-meter breaststroke was a nail-biting race, with the top three finishers going head-to-head into the finish. Catherine Kitzman<\/strong> of Barrington Swim Club came out on top by a hair, touching in 1:13.00 to second-place Vanessa Herrmann<\/strong> of AquaStar’s 1:13.03. The bronze went to Allegra Walker<\/strong> of Phoenix Swimming in 1:13.83.<\/p>\nFourth place was claimed by Hannah Liu<\/strong> of Patriot Aquatic Club\u00a0in 1:14.46, followed by Lillian Culp<\/strong> of Bloomington Normal\u00a0in 1:15.97 for fifth.<\/p>\nAquaStar’s Carly Palmer<\/strong> (1:16.06), Patriot’s\u00a0Drew Petereit<\/strong> (1:16.13), and Highland Park Aquatics Club’s\u00a0Rachel Wander<\/strong> (1:16.73) rounded out the top eight finishers in the competitive event.<\/p>\nMen’s 100 Breaststroke<\/h3>\n

15-year-old Parker dropped another chunk of time in her second event of the evening to win the women’s 100-meter freestyle in over two seconds, stopping the clock in 56.48. Second-place O’Leary touched in 58.52. Third place went to Northern Lights Swimming Association’s\u00a0Grace Lingle<\/strong> in 59.27.<\/p>\nScarlet Martin touched in 59.65 for fourth, while Ecker put up a strong time of 59.82 for fifth.<\/p>\n
Sixth-place Lexi Kucera<\/strong> of High Tides Swim Club\u00a0and seventh-place\u00a0Pelka\u00a0were also under the 1:00 mark, finishing in 59.88 and 59.90, respectively.<\/p>\nEighth place went to Chicago Wolfpack’s\u00a0Anna Peterson<\/strong> in 1:00.25.<\/p>\nMen’s 100 Freestyle<\/h3>\n
Topher Stensby<\/strong> of Patriot Aquatic Club\u00a0won the men’s sprint event by the same margin as Parker, touching in 51.11 to second-place Chicago Wolfpack’s\u00a0Bence Szabados<\/strong>‘s 52.14. Third place went to Szabados’s teammate Parker Nolan<\/strong> in 52.24.<\/p>\nJacob Shapiro<\/strong>\u00a0of Glenview Titan Aquatic Club\u00a0touched in 52.96 for fourth place, followed by Brenner in 53.42. Niccolo Comini<\/strong> of Cats\u00a0finished in 53.95 for sixth\u00a0place honors.<\/p>\nAlderson\u00a0(54.28) and Ezra Mizgala<\/strong>\u00a0of Chicago Wolfpack (54.69) finished in seventh and eighth place to round out the championship final.<\/p>\nWomen’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n
The women’s 200-meter IM showcased\u00a0a remarkable amount of depth in the distance swimmers of the evening. Martin dominated her second event of the finals session, finishing just over two\u00a0seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Her time of 2:20.95 bested second-place Clements’ time of 2:23.04. Third place went to Linn-Mar Swim Team’s\u00a0Hayley Kimmel<\/strong> in 2:24.04.<\/p>\nEmary showed her depth as well, finishing in 2:25.22 for fourth place. Piranhas Swim Club’s\u00a0Olivia Staver<\/strong> put up a 2:26.21 for fifth, while Hermann finished in 2:27.24 for sixth.<\/p>\nCulp (2:27.47) and Walker (2:28.07) finished seventh and eighth, respectively.<\/p>\n
Men’s 200 IM<\/h3>\n
The last event of the evening saw many familiar faces, with Alderson putting up the winning time of 2:10.13 after having swum (and finished in the top eight) in the two preceding events.
