Los Angeles was awarded the 2028 Games at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>According to a release, the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) has moved the original start and end dates for the Paralympic Games in Paris. The competition will now take place from Aug. 28 through Sept. 9 &#8211; about one week earlier than the originally planned date.<\/p>\n<p>The Paralympic Games have often run well through September, such as the Rio Games that were held from Sept. 7-18. The IPC moved the dates to promote more exposure and opportunity for athletes:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #008000;\">This change came in response to the willingness of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Paris 2024 to facilitate the organisation of the competitions and offer the best possible exposure to the\u00a0Paralympic Games, whose first half will now take place during the period of school holidays.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Additionally, there is typically about two and half weeks between the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Bumping up the start date of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games follows suit.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Read the full press release from the IPC below:<\/p>\n<h3>Official Dates Announced for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games<\/h3>\n<p>The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Governing Board approved the Tokyo 2020 road cycling venue and the dates for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games at its meeting\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_808576819\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Wednesday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(7 March).<\/p>\n<p>Meeting in PyeongChang, South Korea, ahead of the Paralympic Winter Games which open\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_808576820\"><span class=\"aQJ\">on Friday<\/span><\/span>\u00a0(<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_808576821\"><span class=\"aQJ\">9 March<\/span><\/span>), the Board signed off the world famous Fuji International Speedway as the venue for all road cycling events during the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games. All 22 sport venues have now been confirmed.<\/p>\n<p>The Board also approved the new dates of the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games which will now take place between\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_808576822\"><span class=\"aQJ\">28 August and 9 September<\/span><\/span>, one week earlier than originally proposed.<\/p>\n<p>This change came in response to the willingness of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) and Paris 2024 to facilitate the organisation of the competitions and offer the best possible exposure to the\u00a0Paralympic Games, whose first half will now take place during the period of school holidays.<\/p>\n<p>With less than 48 hours to go before the start of the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games, the Board was updated on final preparations for the Games.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andrew Parsons<\/strong>, IPC President, said: \u201cThroughout the Board meeting there was an air of excitement regarding the start of the Paralympic Winter Games.\u00a0 Final preparations are going very well and it looks like the PyeongChang 2018 will be record-breaking in many areas. I\u2019m also greatly encouraged by ticket sales which now have exceeded 275,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFollowing the conclusion of PyeongChang 2018 all eyes will be on Tokyo 2020. I am pleased that the venue masterplan for those Games is now finalised.\u00a0 The change of date for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is hugely advantageous and will allow maximum exposure and awareness for the event.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ahead of opening nominations to IPC Standing Committees later this year, the Board ratified the reappointment of a number of Committee members.<\/p>\n<h3>About the IPC<\/h3>\n<p>The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) is the global governing body of the Paralympic Movement. It co-ordinates the organisation of the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games, and serves as the International Federation for 10 sports, for which it supervises and co-ordinates the World Championships and other competitions.
