What&#8217;s more inspiring to Haas, however, is the positive outlook on life shown by his sister,\u00a0<strong>Emily<\/strong>. In 2007, she survived being shot in the head at the Virginia Tech massacre that killed 32 people and wounded 17.<\/p>\n<p>When Haas arrived on campus at the University of Texas in 2015, he was a talented swimmer, but no one knew just how much talent lay dormant within the freshman until the 2016 NCAA Division I Championships in Atlanta.
