Kalisz jumped out to an early lead in the first half of the race and continued to simply build upon that lead throughout the remainder of the race. The 2017 world champion solidified himself as the current fastest in the world with a sizzling 4:08.92, downing his own pool record of 4:09.43 (2017) in the process.<\/p>\n<p>Fellow Olympian <strong>Josh Prenot<\/strong>, representing Cal Aquatics, also swam a race of his own for part of the race, stopping the clock at a final time of 4:18.58. The 17-year-old jumped to an early lead in the race and never let go, powering to a dominating time of 2:06.36. Her time blasts past the world leading time of 2:07.47, set by fellow Canadian\u00a0<strong>Kylie Masse\u00a0<\/strong>at the Uster International meet.<\/p>\n<p>Italy&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Federica Pellegrini<\/strong>\u00a0held off HP Center Victoria&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Jade Hannah<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0collected a silver medal with a time of 2:11.28. Cal teammates\u00a0<strong>Ryan Murphy\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Jacob Pebley<\/strong>, along with Japan&#8217;s\u00a0<strong>Ryosuke Irie<\/strong>, kept close with one another throughout the first 150 meters of the race, but Murphy pulled away to claim the win and defend his title from Austin with a time of 1:55.46. That time improves upon Murphy&#8217;s world leading time of 1:56.11 from the Austin stop.<\/p>\n<p>Pebley finished close behind Murphy with a time of 1:55.85, also improving upon his second place ranking of 1:56.40 in the 2018 world rankings.<\/p>\n<p>Irie, who returned tonight as the top qualifier, took third overall with a 1:56.77. The 17-year-old was one of\u00a0five\u00a0teenagers in the &#8216;A&#8217; final field and demonstrated her ability to quickly recover from a tough double. Ruck jumped to a quick lead in the race and only grew stronger, posting a final time of 1:56.85.
