McKeown&#8217;s first place time of 2:08.23 was over four seconds faster than her morning swim, and catapulted her from third\u00a0place after prelims to win the title. He was a little over\u00a0three seconds off of his Australian record in the event. Second place went to 19-year-old <strong>Bradley Woodward<\/strong>, who touched out 2016 Rio Olympian <strong>Joshua Beaver<\/strong> with his time of 1:57.05 to Beaver&#8217;s 1:58.11.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jordan Merrilee<\/strong>s finished in fourth with his time of 1:59.14, just barely ahead of fifth-place <strong>Tristan Hollard<\/strong> and his time of 1:59.17.<\/p>\n<p>The rest of the heat was fairly spread out, as <strong>Peter Mills<\/strong>&#8216; 2:00.76 was good for sixth, while <strong>Matthew Pender<\/strong> stopped the clock in 2:01.16 for seventh. The battle for the title was close, but <strong>Jake Packard<\/strong> out-touched <strong>James McKechnie<\/strong> by 0.02, winning in 27.33 to McKechnie&#8217;s 27.35. Lewis&#8217;s time of 1:58.36 was almost a second ahead of Larkin&#8217;s mark of 1:59.01.
